Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'll do a decent write up of the Leopardstown one with Segal l and Willie Mullins if you and whoever else cover that one!

Good stuff, I will do this one and as last year send it around. ****ers that never said thanks last year can sing for it!

If you get a chance could you ask Mullins about Samain please. The MC only spoke with the phone guests last year.

Hucklebuck did a great write up from last year. If I remember correctly I think Davy Russell spoke more sense and picked a few winners.

Cheers man, Davy is great at them. Though not sure about his Gagewell Flyer talk...
He is very funny and honest.

I nearly threw something at the stage last year when a few of them referred to Grands Crus as a handicapper when he clearly wasnt.

Nah, they were saying he is just a handicapper, he got Big Buck well off the bridle. Couldn't believe the distain of some people saying he was just a handicapper, he won the Cleve on the bridle by an eased down 10 lengths from Knockara Beau.

Geraghty did say Big Bucks was like buying money.

Around what time will the Waterford preview night finish up? Trying to figure out a way of getting down and back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 56 ✭✭Catherine Power

The Waterford preview usually finishes around 11.30 or maybe a little later.
It's difficult to get it started on time with the numbers that turn up ........

regarding Francome, I stand over my claim that he's the best panellist around, very few are as quick witted and as entertaining as he is.

when it comes to tipping though, it's worth listening carefully to Davy Russell
last year he gave Hurricane Fly as a dead cert!!!
First lieutenant (7/1) and Cheltenian (14/1) to win the bumper.

three winners from every panellist would make a very profitable Cheltenham. Thye're not all going to give you loads of winners but if you listen carefully you can work out what they're serious about.

Tom Segal is always good for a few decent priced winners also.:P

Apologies about size of picture but I really reommend anyone near UCD to check this out. Don't worry about not being a student there. Some great deals and prizes on offer as they are trying to get a new society started

I wouldn't be too hopeful of getting into the student bar unless there's someone there to sign you in. Even though the bar is dead, they still like to give people hassle.

And there used to be a horse racing soc there until pretty recently, but it was under the name 'The Turf Appreciation Society' (something to do with stupid rules/guidelines re soc names).

If you have a ticket you're guaranteed (personally ;)) to get in.

Ten euro in aid of croi with a free pint, free food, free bet and free copy of the racing post. Don't think you're going to get a much better deal to be honest. Anyone with any concerns can pm me. There's plenty of interest outside UCD for this event and it's not restricted to students.

    Ted Spread - County Hurdle @ 14/1
Ulck Du Lin - Fred Winter @ 20/1, had a racecourse gallop with Rock On Ruby and went well. He hasnt run yet but they feel he is well handicapped.

Anyone else heading to this? Going to the festival this year so quite glad it's on :D.

Tenner in but get a free bet (going straight on Kauto), free pint and food.

Also heard (though not sure if accurate) you get a free copy of the racing post and there's some savage raffle prizes. Apparently horse racing Ireland are mad to get young people involved so they're getting plenty of support.

    Panel includes (copied from fb):

Trainers like Philip Rothwell, Jim Draper and Paul Nolan
Jockeys like Andrew McNamara, Davy Condon
    Jockey's Agent Ciaran O'Toole
    Journalists like Ryan McElligott, irishracing.com

Here's a link to the facebook group/society behind it

    http://www.facebook.com/groups/266911230048528/280712445335073/?ref=notif&notif_t=group_activity

Don't usually endorse events but I'll make an exception for Cheltenham!

Paul Nolan didn't turn up (a la Noble Prince and Joncol :P) and neither did Davy Condon.

    Supreme

All agree (obviously) that the groound will be at best GS for the first race.

AMc - Simonsig, thinks he should go here and thinks it'll win. Galileos Choice good enough to win.
JD - Steps to Freedom is ground dependent but is his pick
    Ryan - Cinders and Ashes

    Arkle

Sprinter Sacre, that is all. All want to have sex with the horse. Good Thing

    Champion Hurdle

    Hurricane Fly win all round.
AMc - Oscars Well to chase him home. Zaidpour might be going here, small chance
O'Toole - So Young to chase him home

    Mares Hurdle

All said this was a terrible race. Not a huge amount of love for Quevega suprisingly.
They want to take her on.

Ryan - Shop DJ, worth a shot at a price.
Rothwell - Volder La Vedettes owners are CRAZY
JD - Our Girl Sally - no chance, or close to it
    O'toole & AMc - What a Charm

    Neptune

AMc & OToole - Bennefficient and Simonsig
    Rothwell - Batonnier
JD - Make Your Mark, ran well last day and he likes the horse. Interesting

    RSA

AMc - Bobs Worth won't win. Bog Warrior wont go (obviously). Sir Des Champs go to Jewson?
    Ryan - Invictus, First Liuetenant
    JD - First Lieutenant

    QMCC

    Sizing should win this

AMc & Rothwell - Somersby EW
O'Toole - Gauvain EW if he stays on his feet (obv)

    Bumper

Ryan - if your having a bet in this, you have a problem
    O'Tool - Jetski
    AMc - Moscow Mannon
Rothwell - Stowaways seem to need Heavy (Champagne Fever), Moscow Mannon
JD - Likes Village Vic, had chance to buy it and regrets it

    Ryanair

No one really liked Riverside Theatre. They say Nolan thought Noble Prince would beat Big Zeb the other day. They think a lot of him

    AMc - Loves Ruby Light.
    Rothwell - Great Endeavour
Dreaper & Ryan - Albertas Run

    World Hurdle

Big Bucks to win, but looking for placings. Thousand Stars will go to Aintree and France in AMc opinion and others.

AMc - Oscar Whiskey is new, maybe biggest, threat to Big Bucks. Dynaste to out run odds
Rothwell - Mourad to improve his placing last year

    Triumph

    JD - Hisabaat
Rothwell - Said Weld told Noel Glynn that Becauseicouldn'tsee was beaten by a good horse, Glynn said he'd have beaten him in another two miles. :pac: Shadow Catcher 1st three
AMc - Doesn't like the Irish, Balder Succes.
    Ryan - Pearl Swan
O'Toole - Daroun and Balder Succes

    Albert Bartlett

    O'Toole & Rothwell - Mount Benbulben
    JD - Brindisi Breeze
    Ryan - Sea Of Thunder
    AMc - Folsom Blues

    Gold Cup

    Ryan & O'Toole - Long Run
    Rothwell - Synchronised ew
AMc - thinks "Burton Port was tenderly handled by Barry" on the last day BUT Two horse Race - Long Run
JD - Diamond Harry after wind op

    Best Bets <=> NAPS
    O'Toole - GMOOH (County/Coral) <=> Sprinter Sacre
AMc - Catch Me (Pertemps) <=> Geraghty (Top Rider)
Ryan - Sweet My Lord (Pertemps) <=> Oscars Well W/O HF (Champion H)
    Rothwell - Toner D'Oudaries (Pertemps) <=> Toner D'Oudaries (Pertemps)
JD - Harpsy Chord (Missed the race but he trains it!) <=> Sizing Europe

Cheers hucklebuck. Didn't mind missing it as thought i'd get to the Leopardstown one but i've to go to a stupid work party that night. Trying to get back to Ranelagh, last trains at 11.30 from Clonsilla but the way these things run it won't be over until 1 o clock.

Will get to the one in Cafe en Siene on the 8th but the panel's not as good. Will post whatever I hear aswell.

Had a look at the trains already but figured 11:30 was too early for the train even though Clonsilla station is only about a mile from Westmanstown.

It starts at 8 so get there before 7:45 so you can buy your guide and raffle tickets.

Beware Davy Russell at preview nights, the words "Tiger" and "Cry" come to mind!

I tend to avoid these like the plague now, too many differing opinions and I'd rather back my own judgement as I have nobody to blame but myself then for picking the wrong horse! I know they add to the hype coming up to the greatest show on earth (no not Wrestlemania :P) but sometimes they can cloud the issue even more!

Told everyone a load of bull a few years ago, was at 2 preview nights with him and he said nothing about Tiger Cry, he goes and wins the Grand Annual and being interviewed by RUK after the race he says, "I knew he was my best chance of a winner, I've had to bite my tongue not to say it at all the preview nights I've done!"

If you can give me a horse currently 33/1 but will be 16s on the day please do, their performance on the day is irrelevant as I will have secured my profit/free bet, and the horse was 4/1f 12 months previous so the 33/1 did seem very generous, hindsight obviously tells us the horse just absolutely hated Cheltenham and good ground.

He was not putting it up as a back to lay on the exchanges, he actually thought the horse was a good thing to at least place in the race despite his Gold Cup form of F4P0

Hindsight didn't tell us anything, it was all there in the formbook to tell you the horse had no chance in the Gold Cup.

Jaysus did everyone there have to be spoon fed, he gave a horse that halved in price surely even the most moronic that took he's advice layed off part of it??

Agreed it was all in the formbook and quite clearly not the race, track or ground for the horse, but that was a fairly average GC, Turpid Green placed in it, and he had finished fourth in a GC which was certainly on a par with it, enough people obviously had their money down.

We have gone way off topic here and I appreciate what you were saying and I agree re Russell just felt you could have used a better example ;) Beefy is an old favourite of mine and I tend to get in a lot of ''discussions'' over him!!
