Switched over yesterday as the 20% discount rate is very good also €55 credit for switching online. Texted my details to SSE for free entry but didn't hear back yet, giving them until Monday then will email them as the free entry is the cherry on the cake 'if' I get it

I have a feeling that it might be one promotion or the other. I would be surprised if you got €55 plus a free entry but it was worth a shot. I still haven't had my call returned by SSE. Beginning to get suspicious!!

I can't remember if I asked this before but is there any way of picking up some of the merchandise they were selling at the expo?

Would have really liked a hoodie option, or a top suitable for everyday leisure wear. Maybe next year!

good point. I also thought the tops (the ones for sale at the Expo) were very sparse on the actual event name, the sponsor's name was even more evident.

so as it stands only 20% of those posting a finishing time were below their predicted times.
Makes me feel a little better :-)

And the results I'm aware of that haven't filled it in their times yet were also above target, meaning the percentage was even lower than what it's currently working out at.

I am finally up to date with all posts. Well done to all and I hope any disappointment has faded and you have a new goal to look forward to.
This was my first marathon and I had an incredible day. I absolutely loved it and what an amazing experience. I followed the novice thread and their Boards plan and found it fantastic. I had one toenail loss during the 5 months and that was from my one traumatic run but by the following afternoon I was over it and more importantly the run.
I surprised myself by being calm the weekend of the race and especially the morning of. I was told to enjoy your first marathon and so from the start of the race I eased off to enjoy the experience.
I was extremely fortunate with family and friends support. Two dialorites were taken and so that would have really saved me as my calves got tight at half way and with the wind at Crumlin it was a good time to walk. I had no cramping or issues. I really had a great day. I was aiming for sub 4 and on my 10km time I was in for a 4.01 finish. I had people worried with the massive gap from 20-30 km so this changed I am told to a 4.28 finish. I completed it in 4.19.58 and have a super smile in all photos crossing the finish, really for the last 800m.
What a day. All runners, volunteers and supporters were incredible.

Hi

Although a lot of people have a red down arrow to point out that they didn't achieve their target , it has to be point out that a lot of people still got a pb. so it would have been a good idea to have a pb column.
Which leads to the questions were some people to ambitious in their targets. My target was a 3:35, got a 3:32:54

but at one stage i was on for a 3:25 which on another day i would have got. I hit the wall on top of heart break hill and struggled home . i stopped and walked a bit each mile until the end.
I looked back on my times and probably lost it in the mid section where i was going a bit too fact and that caught up with me. My 3 weeks out injured caught up with me also.So overall was happy with my time
weather was tough enough, and it definately affectged me and a lot of others, but for me it wasn't the main reason why i hit the wall
well done to all .Here's to the next time

I remember seeing a post on the Dublin Marathon Facebook page looking for our Garmin logs for research/analytics purposes...I can't find the post now...did anyone send off their log?

Do you know what's the subject of her research and does she provide feedback?

She hasn't provided any feedback.
I think she said it was about pacing strategies in the marathon, there was a survey to carry out pre-race too. It asked for your goal time, don't remember what else.
Her dad was at the Expo on Saturday trying to sign people up

oh, it was for a Young Scientist project

Just back from my 2nd run since the DCM. The first one was yesterday. Did almost 7 yesterday, 5 and a bit today. 8.30 pace or so both days. Threw in a few strides too, just for pig-iron. Feeling amazingly fresh, considering that was the hardest marathon I've ever done. Is anyone else finding having a similar experience? I wonder if there was a major disparity between actual, as opposed to perceived, effort last Monday week?

Not quite the same as I was pacing it rather than racing, but I found it interesting that I had to work much harder than expected during the marathon but felt no soreness at all afterwards.

I felt a bit stiff during my recovery run the following day but 2 days after the marathon even that was gone. So yes, there might indeed have been a disparity between perceived and actual effort.

Had my first post DCM spin last night. Just 4 miles. Can't say I was flying! Took it easy but wouldn't have been able for much more to be honest. I was shattered after the race on the 27th. It was the toughest marathon I've done and the effort to get it done most certainly was real! Was feeling doms until the Friday. Going in for a track session tonight. Should be interesting...

I'm finding it a lot harder to recover from this one. Now in saying that it was the least trained I have ever been going into a marathon with an injury in September. Just finding it a lot more difficult to get back to easy miles and the heart rate is about 10 beats higher than it normally would be afterwards.

My effort felt pretty bleedin' actual! Quads were in bits til Thursday, couldn't bring myself to run over the weekend, did a 40k cycle instead. 10k today was pretty gentle. Have been doing a lot of soul-searching since missing 3.30 by 69 seconds after being 31 seconds over last year. Bought P&D's advanced marathoning and think I'll be using a quite different program next year - more runs each week and definitely more speedwork. Trying not to beat myself up too much over it especially seeing all the red arrows in the table, but it is hard to take being so near and yet so far.

I've done 5 runs since, 7 miles being the longest. My calf felt a bit sore when I finished the marathon and has been sore since, but only while running and only a bit sore. Going to leave it for tonight, do a few miles tomorrow night and then off to Belfast for the weekend, so no running then. Starting back in earnest on Monday with a modified marathon plan for Donadea.
Last night was the first night that I felt the lingering effects were fully gone, but that's doing 8:15ish miles only, nothing faster just yet. I am reading Feet in the Clouds and it's not recommended marathon recovery reading at all: the many tales of fell racing feats by the likes of Joss Naylor are not conducive to taking it easy

Sorry to hear that johnners,I made my target by less than a minute and it was a battle all the way to the finish line,if I had gone a minute the other way I would've been devastated and pretty disillusioned so I can imagine how you must feel.
Stick with it,I used the p+d 55 mile plan to an 11 min pb so maybe try that next time.

Does anyone follow "tradition" and simply take a day off for every mile raced?

I don't thinks it's a day's off but definitely no high intensity work in that period. Again this will vary on how quick you tend to recover.

Inspired by Krusty_Clown's post last year, I threw together some stats for DCM 2014
Stat explanations (all times are chip only):
• Runners - Total number of runners
• N/A - No split available (no chip time registered at half)
• Equal Split - Same time taken for first and second half
• Neg Split - Number of runners who ran the second half quicker
• Pos Split - Number of runners who ran the second half slower
• % Positive - Percentage of runners who had a positive split
• Avg Neg - Of the runners who ran a negative split, what was the average
• Avg Pos - Of the runners who ran a positive split, what was the average
• /km 10k - Average pace (mins/km) for runners up to 10k
• /km Half - Average pace (mins/km) for runners from 10k to 21.098k
• /km 30k - Average pace (mins/km) for runners from 21.098k to 30k
• /km End - Average pace (mins/km) for runners from 30k to finish
• Avg Time - Average finishing time

Going in for a track session tonight. Should be interesting...[/QUOTE]

Was interesting!! 20 laps alternating between 5k and marathon pace! Tough but was with a group of similarly paced lads which made it a bit easier. Got it done and didn't feel too bad after it so all's well and good!
