I drove past this - the Kilmurray diversion - last week and it is really going to slow traffic, especially at peak times. The carriageway seems narrow enough, there is no shoulder to allow for breakdowns, punctures etc and at that time there was no barrier to prevent anyone skidding off into the earthworks. (I presume a barrier will have to be put in place?)

The other diversion in Barndarrig seemed to be progressing well enough - I presume it has to finish before the school reopens in September. If not there are going to be a lot of happy local kids and an equal number of unhappy parents :)
I passed there two days ago and there was a pick-up using the new tarmac. I thought at the time that the diversion was going to be just one direction, judging by the width. There wasn't much tarmac each side of the pick-up.

That's going to be tight for two trucks passing!

Looking from the side, it seems to be tight but when you're on it it will be wide enough.

When driving by it yesterday there was a roller stopped on it which helped give perspective to the width. It should be fine for normal traffic but the entrances to both diversions seem to turn sharply which will slow down the traffic a lot. Tail backs will become a feature I fear.

People might want to soon consider the N80 route if they are travelling from Dublin to Wexford (of course you have to think about Newlands X roadworks)

Anyone know how many junctions there will be off the new motorway i thought was only 2 one at jack whites and one at beehive.but looking at the above it looks like there will be one at each of the new diversions as well?

I'm sure it won't be that bad that people would consider using the N81/N80 to get from Dublin to Wexford. When it will be finished it will be DC/motorway all the way from Dublin to County Wexford. Wexford will only be an hour and a half away from Dublin.

There's not much difference time wise from North Dublin to Wexford between the two routes at the moment. I'd normally take the N11, but always check traffic before I leave

You're correct - Junction 18 -the Beehive, Junction 19 Jack Whites

those interchanges on the map dont seem to connect into the new M11 but are being used to link the old N11 with the maze of L roads in the area

The diversion started today. It's a relatively short distance and it was nice to drive on the fresh tarmac!

Is the diversion a throwaway piece of road that will not be used when the work is complete or does it form part of the finished roadway?

What does it do to the traffic flow? Is there much build-up at the diversion?

Yesterday there was a bit of a queue - maybe 5-10 mins. Today seemed ok though.

From looking at the plans the southern part of the diversion will be an access road for a farm, there'll be a new roundabout and then the northern part will be the "new" N11 or whatever the road will be called after the motorway opens.

Really? I've been on it several times a day since it opened and i'm yet to see a delay on it. Maybe I'm on it at a different time to you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭ITDept

Yes, I usually get there at about 7:15 and the first day there was a noticeable queue. Presumably everyone was going slow as they weren't sure about it, or maybe they just wanted to have a longer look. Since then there hasn't really been any queuing but it is still a bit slower than it used to be on the old road as that short stretch is a 60 kph limit.

The two bumps at the top of the hill along the new stretch are going to catch someone out and cause an accident

Must be to facilitate a future roundabout. I travel it every day and went through it late tonight. Didn't reduce speed going over it to see how the car would react and I would definitely be concerned about it in the rain or worse, Frost.

Unbelievable that they have left it like that. Hopefully they'll put in rumble strips or some safety feature before its to late.

Hardly a machine moved today with the weather being so bad. With the 13 hour days they've being doing I'd say they were delighted.

Noticed signs saying 'major traffic switch w/c 1/9/14' this morning. Looks like the bit nearest Arklow is next.

Commuting from Gorey is a slow business these days. Most mornings I get stuck at the Arklow end of the road works for 10 - 15 minutes. I've tried going out via Rathdrum but there's not much difference in overall journey times.

Does anyone have any quicker routes / a helicopter I could borrow? :)

Many thanks to vickers209 for all of the photos - I won't recognise the place when I travel the N11 again. :) Great work. Hope the wet weather won't slow things down too much.

Any word on when the service station on the Gorey bypass is due to open

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,014 ✭✭✭tylercheribini

i live right across the road from it..still a good bit of work to be done on it..ill post a picture of progress at the weekend..rumour from neighbour is even when completed it wont open for at least another year anyway as a few of the other stations are already in financial diffculty. this particular station was planned before the financial crash and was based on projected road traffic figures of the era, this info unconfirmed of course

It's known that that station will operate at a loss and the government are subsidising it because of that.

    Interesting, who is your source?

It was discussed here on boards. I cant remember exactly which thread but I'm sure someone will post a link.

How is the new configuration around Jack Whites going? Has it slowed traffic down a lot? I assume it's this configuration that I heard on the news today (only caught the end of it) ??
