    They hardly sent everyone upstairs through the security checkpoint to get to the apron did they? That's the only way someone could leave something that cound be picked up by a departing passenger the next day.

    Nah, I agree.

    They probably opened one of the doors that are usually locked straight out the other side without having to go the long way around (i.e. no where near the security check/boarding gate areas), and therefore nearly impossible to leave something for a departing passenger on the other side.

    Do't know why people are concerend by security. The burning question is did they count the runners as arriving and departing passengers. :rolleyes: 2014 domestic stats could reveal a lot!

    The metal detectors and other checks would still be in place to pick stuff up going through, I wouldn't think the runners would be going through duty free to get running, more than likely through the cargo bays in departures/check in.

    The conversation I had was around the time the Air Show was in Shannon, summer of 92, so policy might have changed a lot.

    People doing a run didn't go through security. They were brought outside and onto the ramp basically.

    Eirtech circled in $50m private equity deal (Sunday Independent)

    An American private equity outfit whose investment portfolio includes missile and jet-fighter component makers, is currently targeting a stake in Shannon aviation firm Eirtech. A deal is likely to value Eirtech at a minimum of $50m (€36m).

    A spokesman for Eirtech Aviation confirmed that it's currently "looking at potential development opportunities" but declined to identify possible partners. It's thought that a deal could be concluded within a matter of weeks.

    It's believed that Eirtech, which is 75pc-owned by chief executive Niall Cunningham with the remaining shareholding owned by chief operating officer Peter Collins, is in talks with Los Angeles-based private equity group Vance Street Capital.

    Vance Street partner Richard Roeder was this month discretely appointed to the Eirtech board.

    Eirtech paints aircraft for customers including Gulf carriers Etihad and Qatar Airways. It also installs aircraft equipment for Southwest.

    Aer Lingus Regional reports 12 months of consecutive growth (Business & Leadership)

    June Passenger traffic for the airline was up +29% at Shannon Airrport.

    The June UK figures are out.

    Again, looking at the four airports served by Aer Lingus Regional (Stobart Air), they reveal a +62.7% increase for June, however according to the Business & Leadership website the increase was only +29%.

    Again, can anybody explain the difference?

    The overall total UK figures are up +11.2% as against the same month from last year.

    Welcome for passing of Shannon Bill through the Oireachtas (Shannon Airport)

    Shannon Airport has welcomed the passing of legislation in the houses of the Oireachtas for the creation of the Shannon Group.

    The ‘Shannon Bill’ was passed by the Seanad last evening, having earlier been voted through the Dail. It will now be presented to President Michael D. Higgins for signing, which leads to enactment into law.

    The Bill will pave the way for formally establishing the Shannon Group, which will combine the now independent Shannon Airport with the property ownership and management activities of Shannon Commercial Enterprises Limited, as well as Shannon Heritage and the International Aviation Services Centre (IASC), which builds on the aviation related activities already located at the Airport and in the Shannon Free Zone area.




    Will someone just run over to the Phoenix Park with this bill for Michael D. Higgins to sign.

    There are now nearly twelve months of lost business opportunities as it stands.

    Transaero Engineering seeks planning permission (14411) to use an existing Aircraft Hangar for the break up of end-of-life aircraft for recycling.

    After viewing the scanned planning files it seems the hangar in question is the former Aer Lingus one.

    ASL/Air Contractors are basing Hercules L100 aircraft at Shannon for use on adhoc missions. Good to see them building on their growing base at Shannon

    Calls for Friends of Shannon Airport Group (Limerick Post)

    SHANNON airport bosses have been urged by a leading member of one of the world’s most successful airport groups, the Friends of Liverpool Airport(FoLa) to create their own Friends of Shannon Airport group.

    Graham Ward, editor of FoLA’s magazine spoke at an exploratory meeting attended by more than 200 people to consider the establishment of a Friends of Shannon Airport Group.

    The meeting was attended by supporters of the airport from Limerick, Clare, Cork, Galway and Tipperary. It was facilitated by the airport in response to requests from people who wished to offer their support on a voluntary basis.The event heard from three members of FoLA, which is in existence for 30 years and has more than 260 members. They said that Friends’ activities are very much valued by Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

    Mr Ward said “If you set up a group like ours in Shannon you will never regret it. People love to support something they believe in or are interested in. The group would be a win-win for all concerned,the airport and the members”.

    FoLA’s activities include running tours of the airports for schools, colleges and other groups and organising airport exhibitions and promotions in shopping centres, factories and offices.

    Shannon Airport CEO Neil Pakey, who worked closely with FoLA during his time as Liverpool Airport CEO, said, “There is such a close relationship between the airport and the region and an organisation like FoLA would be understandable given the airport’s importance to the region”.




    I’d imagine Neil Pakey was quite pleased by the numbers that attended the meeting. :)

    Shannon Aerospace seeing more competition (Irish Independent)

    Pre-tax profits at the Shannon-based aircraft maintenance firm, Shannon Aerospace, last year increased six-fold to €1.69m.

    According to new accounts filed with the Companies Office, revenues at at the Lufthansa-owned Shannon Aerospace Ltd increased by 27pc going from €56.5m to €71.69m in the 12 months to the end of December last.

    The directors' report states the 27pc increase in revenue was due to higher volume and heavier maintenance events.

    The directors caution that the company's competitors are increasing, particularly in Eastern Europe and the Middle East where labour costs are significantly lower than in Ireland.

    The numbers employed by the firm decreased marginally from 487 to 484.

    Staff costs last year increased from €23m to €25.1m.

    Ryanair are dropping Shannon-Liverpool and replacing it with a daily Manchester service. A weekly flight to Kaunas has also been announced.

    Ryanair are dropping Shannon-Liverpool and replacing it with a daily Manchester service. A weekly flight to Kaunas has also been announced.

    Good and bad news.

    If ryanair introduce the Manchester service and Aer Lingus drop it is will harm the airports growth.

    Kaunas is good news either way.

    Ryanair are dropping Shannon-Liverpool and replacing it with a daily Manchester service. A weekly flight to Kaunas has also been announced.

    That's the danger with Ryanair. They'll now try to drive Aer Lingus off the Manchester route and instead of having a choice of 3 flights a day we'll end up with a single Ryanair flight.

    You are now almost certain to lose one based EIR aircraft and given MAN was their biggest route for years at SNN, any major impact could easily spell a complete pull out from them.

    Great to see SNN doing things differently from the daa :rolleyes:

    Indeed. They'll announce BHX next and that'll be the end of EIR at SNN.

    Im just waiting for the announcement by Aer Lingus that they are dropping the manchester route.

    Hoperfully (and Im being optimistic,) Aer Lingus will replace the Manchester route with something else in the uk.

    I don’t how significant these numbers are but I fear a Ryanair’s daily flight to Manchester could undermine the Aer Lingus Regional base at Shannon too.

    According to newly-filed accounts from Shannon Airport Authority, the company generated revenues of €39.1m last year.

    Staff costs for 263 people at Shannon Airport in 2013 came to €17.17m.

    The figures show that the airport’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation totalled €3.4m.

    When asked about staying competitive at the newly independent Shannon airport and making economies, Mr Pakey admitted the overall payroll amount was on the “high side”

    “You have to look at everything. There is no doubt there are legacy issues from the old company. Some of those are easier to deal with than others and you’ve got to respect contracts as well. We will need to look at the non-payroll costs, the payroll costs and, if we want to grow the business in the interest of everyone here, we have got to get our cost base sustainable.

    He added: “The overall payroll amount is on the high side but that might be about cost efficiencies that might not actually affect the rates of pay that people get.”

    I don’t how significant these numbers are but I fear a Ryanair’s daily flight to Manchester could undermine the Aer Lingus Regional base at Shannon too.

    I wonder would Aer Lingus Regional be interested in the Liverpool route?


    There are certainly many pax transferring from the T/A flights to regional. Rumour of a third 757 also. Hopefully enough connecting pax for both ATRs.

    Maybe 2 x 42's would work better?

    Well if the booking engine is to be believed 2x42 for Winter. Pity they don't have same "new" feel as the new ATRs!

    They had planned 1 42 and 1 72 and now its 2 42 and that was before FR announced MAN. I will be very surprised in both aircraft stay. Two flights 30 minutes apart (both arrive in MAN same time) and one carrier is half the price.
