If they legalized drugs would all these killings keep happening

I doubt it tbh, they would just get into bootleg cigarettes, or something else. Although I'd be for legalising some drugs, I'd never be for legalising Heroin or Coke. Channel 4 did a recent public survey on this (posted on another thread). Take the test yourself here.

Believed to have been shot while collecting his kids from school, you would have to wonder was this by accident or have they really stooped so low as to make sure it was in front of the kids like the other 2 shootings this week.

Well there's a few more kids who'll be living by the gun as soon as they're old enough.

Seems to be a new tactic alright. Your guard is down, and I suppose, if you're attacked under such circumstances, you're less likely to run for it, and leave your kids there. Sadly, it's only a matter of time before someone's child is hit in the crossfire. More likely now, when school entrances are considered the 'kill zone'. :(

    seems like a lovely bloke

    http://www.herald.ie/news/family-ties-two-killers-and-one-suspected-hitman-make-up-feared-ballyfermot-siblings-2929796.html

At one court hearing last January, Keith was refused compassionate bail to attend his grandfather's funeral after Detective Inspector Martin Cummins said: "No amount of money would ease my mind as to the concerns and risks of this man getting bail."

With Keith now being convicted of murder, detectives are concerned that he will continue to be involved in gangland activity from behind bars. With his two younger brothers locked up, sources believe that their older brother John may be in a vulnerable position. John was also present for every day of his brother's trial.

John (34) was arrested by gardai in August in relation to the triple shooting at the Players Lounge pub in Fairview which left three innocent men with serious injuries. He was released without charge.

John has already survived three attempts on his life. In April of this year, he was the victim of a late night gun attack in his native Ballyfermot which left him with injuries to his knee.

And in September of last year, John Wilson had a miraculous escape when two armed gunmen arrived at his house.

It is understood that the assassin team -- which sources believe were working for the Real IRA -- intended to shoot him as he brought his children to school.

But instead, the gunmen decided to murder him in his house and they called to the door but they got freaked out when his wife answered the door and they fled the scene in a car that was later traced to the Tallaght area.

Sixteen months before he was involved in that incident, John had another lucky escape when in March, 2009, he noticed a pipe bomb under his car which was parked outside his Ballyfermot address.

The army bomb disposal team were called and made the "viable device" safe.

John Wilson's most serious brush with the law was when he was jailed for possession of a sawn-off shotgun and am-munition almost a decade ago.

I really don't know why people are so shocked that these thugs are getting murdered in front of their kids. It's gangland out there. It's terrible but it's not at all surprising.

Sorry for his family that he's dead, no idea who he is, but he's someones dad so, sorry for them. I doubt his kids know much or care what "Dad" does, he's just "Dad" and I doubt they judge or view him the same as everyone else. He might have had it coming, I still feel sorry for his kids.

Just seen a quick bit of TV3'S coverage of the shooting, the area covered in young lads in hoodies laughing, skobies, you'd think a Hollywood star was in town not a shooting.

I live in the area and my children were coming home from school at the time so regardless of the victims profile, neither his children or my children deserve to be subjected to this. As for your opinion on the young lads in hoodies laughing, my lads wear hoodies because it's the "fashion" , I can assure you they are not "skobies" but well brought up mannerly children who understand that a life was lost today, I use this as an opportunity to educate them as to what may happen if they follow the wrong path in life. Tonight however children are grieving for their father regardless of what he was, to them he was just their Dad. This assumption that his children will grow up to avenge him is just ridiculous and unfounded, his children will be supported by their many friends in an area I'm proud to live in because people support each other in times of need.

Knew it from the moment I heard the story that it was gangland. I think it's connected to that shooting last week(the week before) of that IRA guy. That was my theory, and if the real IRA were involved then maybe it was.

Also this John Wilson guy is a bit stupid tbh. He's had many attempts on his life, you'd think he'd be a little more cautious. Especially when gunmen already called to his house before. If you ask me, it's his own fault, he practically killed himself for failing to be more careful. Not that I care though, one less scumbag on the planet.

When someone calls to your door with a gun it's a safe bet you're not on someone's Christmas card list:pac:

In fairness with a killer and drug dealer for a father I don't think he would of had the best chance anyway. Maybe this would make the kids think twice.
Is there some sort of large cash prize going for ****test post of the day or something? The unbelievable ****e that's spewing out of people's fingertips today is just off the Richter Scale.

Friends of mine live very close to this with their three kids - Im loathe to use the colloquialism of "salt of the earth" but that's what they are - hard working with great family values & their kids are a credit - scares the hell out of me that this would happen so close.

This harks back to the Westies - I hope it ends soon

The problem is the cat is already out of the bag with regard to the killings, It becomes tit for tat and revenge rather then having anything to do with drugs.

he was one of the biggest scumbags in south Dublin, if not the country

Wilson was a scumbag. His brother 'lucky' is doing 23 years in Spain for murder. He was the most notorious hitman in Ireland, killing at least 10 people. The other brother, Keith is doing life for murdering daniel gaynor, a hit man who worked for Alan Ryan. Ryan tried to have John Wilson killed but the killer legged it when his wife answered the door. In retaliation John who was high as a kite walked up to the players lounge with two guns and opened fire. He thought Alan Ryan was outside but he had gone back in. Wilson shot two innocent people and the bouncer. This my friends is the first revenge murder by the RIRA. More to come

They need to have a mandatory 20year sentence without parole, for anyone caught with an unregistered firearm. The fact the weapon used in the south circular road murder was (apparently) abandoned in the getaway car, just shows how easy it is to get hold of a gun.

The Gardai know who these people are, they need to harass them 24/7 and purge them off our streets.
It worked with the Gilligan gang.

If this requires emergency legislation, then bring it in.

The Gardai can't harass them 24/7 with no manpower, less armed Gardai, no overtime, less patrol cars etc.

This government has chosen to pay back debt and leave the public vulnerable to these scumbags. Unless significant investment is made to An Garda Siochana this is going to get worse s lot more killing on our streets and increase on overall crime.

And I can't see any investment coming in the next few years.

Interesting turn of events though. Wilson had nothing to do with the hit on Ryan - that was orchestrated by Mr. Big from Coolock and carried out by foreign lads. Could be that the Wilson hit was just the RIRA flexing their muscles and showing that they are still a force, despite the fact that they have suffered a lot of arrests recently and the fact that Ryan's killers are out of their reach.

Apologies for the double post, but this could also be retaliation for the two hits during the week of Declan O'Reilly and Gerard Eglington. They were both members of Rattigan's gang and the Wilson's had previously done a lot of work for Fat Freddie. I think John Wilson was involved in the killing of Anthony Cannon, who was high up in the Rattigan gang. Actually, now that I think about it, this hit is more likely linked to that feud than to the Ryan hit. I can't see the RIRA bothering with Wilson at the moment. He was unrelated to the Ryan hit and they have enough on their plate at the moment.

the sooner they all kill each other off the better for the country

I'd let them at it. They chose the life, they know the potential circumstances that it could end in. They seem to enjoy a god like status in many of their neighbour hoods anyway.

No police force could ever defeat organised crime, its here to stay, one of the facts of life..

This is not really that complicated, but politicians don't have the appetite to address it. These killings, by and large, happen as a result of "business" that is outside of the boundaries of normal civilization. In America the Mafia carried out a lot of murders over the "running of numbers" - gambling. There are no murders carried out over gambling in Europe, because it is legal and moderated. The answer is to legalise everything. Sure, the gangsters will move into different areas and will still resort to violence because they don't have recourse to courts of law to settle their business disputes. Gangsters are already heavily involved in the selling tobacco because of the profit margin - but you don't hear of too many people getting killed over selling tobacco! The killings tend to happen in the completely unregulated markets of drugs (and gambling in the States). Drugs are way too serious to be left in the hands of criminals.
