As the mother of two cats, two kittens and two chipmunks, I think if I saw somebody doing that i would lose my mind.
I would not be responsible for my actions. (I'd probably get the sh*t beat out of me but I wouldn't even feel it the rage would be too great)

Cruelty to animals ISN'T funny, it's not cool an the people who do it are most likely to end up killing ans torturing humans.

If I had my way, I would pair off all the people who do that, tether them together, cut the arms off one and then the other one would have to wipe his/her ass for all eternity.

This makes me a hypocrite yes. yes it does

Sigh, hmm that is quite horrendous to me, however the billions of animals killed in slaughter houses every year has me a little more upset.

Its a bit different in fairness. The hamster, cats and dogs died slow painful deaths. Well probably not the hamster, it'd probably have died before the rocket exploded

I'd have to agree with you there Tar.Aldarion regarding slaughter houses and also some farmers. I can't understand how people have to be so cruel to animals. The treatment they get in slaughter houses and in many farms leaves a lot to be desired. The least they could do is kill the animals humanely and prevent any suffering. I remember reading about a pig farmer somewhere in Ireland having to kill his pigs himself and the department of agriculture just seemed to think it was O.K. and this man had little or no training, this wasn't the worst i've heard of. I think the likes of Jamie Oliver has a lot to answer for regarding his latest series where he cuts the throat of a sheep without stunning it first. I was really mad about that one that they use these kind of tacktics to gain ratings for his stupid f*****g series. Great to see the back of that frog farm up the country though.

Unless you go and learn about how much worse those animals are treated don't talk about it tbh. It is slower, it is more painful.
Try to imagine the pain and the suffering that they endure day after day and night after night. Next time you get some soap in your eyes, try to imagine that pain for 3 or 4 days at a time. Next time you have a stomach ache, try to imagine liquid plumber being poured down your throat till you puke so much blood that you bleed to death. Next time you bump your head, try to imagine being a monkey and getting a steel plate smashed into your skull at 50 miles per hour. For that happens in the name of science.Continue in abundance till this day... As for space, six chickens to a 16 x 18 inch cage....
Sigh if only that were near the worst that goes on these days. Anyway google is our friend....
The thought that there are videos of the tortures that go on on the net....
sigh, if only slaughter houses had glass walls eh, and maybe if welfare was actually to inspect them...

    Edit, woot rant sorry.

The bottom line is people are making money out of animals and they have no respect for them, the thoughts of it make my blood boil.

that is cruelly funny, new a guy that once had a light hearted game of tennis with his hamster, he also one day decide to give his hamster a go on his remote control car....we dont talk about that incident anymore

That is distressing, how could anyone watch that happen. My dog was killed by a neighbour when I was 9, it was fed rat poinsin which I only found this out a year or two ago. If anyone hurt my dog now I would f*cking kill them. How anyone can be that cruel is beyond me, where could that hatred come from?

    No **** PETA.

Those retards really wreck my noggin.

If someone could dig up that webpage where PETA were shown encouraging factory workers to act cruely to animals in front of their hidden camera I would be most greatful.

    Thanks for that, real smart.

Sure it's distressing what's going on, but that's no reason to bring it back to calling Limerick names. The original story was from Scotland. I don't see anybody saying "I'm not surprised, Scots are ****". At least Limerick is consistently trying to better it's image and bridge the gap between communities.

Incidentally, on cruelty to animals, I follow the "I don't hurt anything with eyes" line. I'll also try to avoid hurting spiders, but I'll kill anything that buzzes. Can't stand buzzing.

Agreed. Bunch of annoying, whiney so-and-sos.

What about PETA distributing graphic comics entitled "Your Mommy Kills Animals" to KIDS whose mothers wore fur coats?

Or the protestors near Central Bank who shove misleading images into the faces of kids?

Or the scientists, whose lives are destroyed by self-righteous protestors when, in reality, they're testing on behalf of medicinal science (and it has to be tested somehow).

Or what about the total undermining of the 'least-harm' argument? The fact that, for every field of vegetables ploughed, hundreds of animals - including foxes, rabbits etc are slaughtered - needlessly and wastefully - by the same self-righteous, sanctimonious vegetarians who dare to label carnivores, and then consequently go on to contribute to slaughtering themselves...

Both sides have an argument - but one is heard much more often than the other:

NoelRock, I could kiss you. What a brilliant post.

Here is my view on it: I don't agree with PETA, or these mass meat producers in the States. People should really eat some meat to have a properly balanced diet, but not nearly as much as we are eating at the moment.

I believe in buying free-range meat. While I have no moral qualms about eating meat, the animals should be reared in an ethical manner. The overcrowding and forced fast-growth of beasts is not only cruel, but leads to defects in the animal.

The tastiest meat you will ever eat is that from an animal that was fed properly, as opposed to being stuffed to gain muscle mass, reared with a good amount of living space, and slaughtered with as little trauma as possible.

I got into a full blown row with one of them after they passed me one of their graphic leaflets near the cetral bank.

I told her I like eating meat and I don't particular care where it comes from. They really don't like hearing the meat eaters side of the story. She called me a murderer

I told her to get a real ****ing job.

EDIT, had to cut out most of the quote because my post is too long
Ah I knew it was dubious to bring a video by peta into it but it was the one I found...
Don't get me wrong, I know everything about PETA, they are ****ing abhorrant assholes tbh and what they do to children... I despise them as much as I despise anything.
People say they bring animal cruelty to the attention of people but **** that. Anybody can do that, their methods are ridiculous and they just hurt the cause. People don't take this seriously because 'oh PETA are assholes they must have set up that stuff',
You may ask why I linked to a PETA video then, it is because what I am talking about has **** all to do with those assholes. Everything in the video is absolute fact even if it comes from them and that is all that matters.
Their cause is right but they are as bad as the people they hate. It is just one example KFC, they even admit this is what they do. Go look at less know meat suppliers...
People should really eat some meat to have a properly balanced diet
    why?
plus the fact that if more and more people stopped eating meat over a period of time, there would be no world hunger.Look at the stats on how much the billions of animals take to be reared. over half the water in america goes to cattle alone. America alone could feed 800 million starving people a year by giving up beef etc.
If people don't have morals when it comes to animals, do they show the same respect with people?
I would like to know how some people reason that killing human is wrong and killing an animal is not. At least with most people, it is ' i know it is wrong but i just don't think about it/don't bother. How can you find it not to be the same thing, all we are is animals. If you find no problem with killing an animal, fine but then you should have no problem with somebody killing a human.
How can you call somebody that kills a human a murderer and somebody that kills an animal not.
I mean look at the outraged opinions people have on this thread for the hamster when in fact they are condoning far much every day and taking a part in it.
Don't think that a vegetarian thinks they are better than everybody else, animls die when crops for me have to be harvested, a smart vegetarian would consider themselves at wrong too.
I try to kill as little possible without being excluded from society in some little forrest somewhere. Who could I reach there tbh. The fact that through knowing me or people like me in society that millions of people a year are becoming vegetarian is great, with the amount of humans that exist it is practically impossible to be murder free without huge changes so I just try to keep that killing down as much as possible. I can eat a meat substitute that looks and tastes like meat, so i do. Meat is the only food that i actually liked, i'm quite picky but it is much better these days because being vegetarian is much easier adn maybe like george bernard shaw i can have a procession of animals follow my funeral to represent the animals that i didn't kill in my lifetime :v:
I really started thinking about this stuff as a little kid but it took so many years of improving how I live to actually feel little better in myself.
My first memory as a child about this was of a vegetarian being distraught when she saw rare meat. She wouldn't tell me what was wrong and well i couldnt see the problem because I was just a child but she said think back when I understand and about how this feels like a million auchwitzs a year to her. That had me pickled for quite some time, why won't she eat meat mammy, who is auchwitz, oh to be a kid again.
    w00t for the rants!

Tar, just shut up, please. We are never going to agree with this. I only have my degree in Culinary Arts with huge section on Nutrition to back me up, I know it can't *possibly* compare to a few on-line articles you have read, but what the hey.
