MTB around €1000 mark

Hi, Can anyone advise on what's best to consider for a 1000 euro hard tail mountain bike. I am looking for 27.5 wheels. The technology is going beyond my comprehension!

On my radar are the cube acid 27.5 and the giant talon 27.5 1. I was considering canyon but I can only get 29 wheel size in their large frame hard tails (I'm about 6'1). I notice that giant have put 100 sterling onto the talon 0 this year, due to currency rates for parts etc, I guess. So, with that in mind, I wonder if there would be any value in picking up a 2015 model? The 2015 cube acid is still available in a few retailers.

Any advise is greatly appreciated as there isn't a lot on youtube, etc.

in the same boat as yourself... going from a roadbike to mtb and haven't a clue. but ive found out that Rock shox has a good front fork and to keep away from Suntour basic forks. also to go with >= Deore groupset if you can.
some notes i had on groupsets:

Groupset: SRAM bigger number is better (X0 is best)
Shimano - Tourney, Acera, Alivio, Deore, SLX (used to be LX), XT, XTR. Zee and Saint are downhill/harder riding specific, Zee is roughly SLX, Saint XTR, but it's not quite that simple.

Think of Deore=X5 and XT=X9 to compare SRAM to Shimano[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]http://www.mtbtreks.com/beginners-guide-to-mountain-bike-groupsets/[/FONT]

if you go with 29er you can put cyclocross tyres on it as well if you'd fancy a bit of CX.... more flexible. bikes ive had a look in 29 but available in 27.5 are:

Thanks all, that boardman bike looks to have good reviews and looks like decent value. I'm not as familiar with the SRAM components. I presume they are of similar quality to the equivalent shimano gear? Would a granny gear be worthwhile on a mountain bike or is it just adding extra weight? This one has 20 gears.

Depends on the gearing but 2x10 is generally fine. In fact many people go 1x10 now or 1x11 more recently. Not many new bikes would come with 3x9 any more.

The Reba fork is very good, probably the best you'll get at this prove range. The rest of the kit is a mixture of SLX with an XT rear derailleur. As with the fork, this is pretty good kit for the price.

Radon did have a bike in their 2015 range with a Reba fork and more or less fill XT kit for 1000. It's out of stock and probably isn't coming back into stock. I hope they release one in their 2016 range with the same components because that was cracking value.

If you're not using the bike to work scheme make sure and take a look at the used market, serious value of there for that budget!

In the end I plumped for the 2015 cube 27.5. Just didn't want a 29er otherwise it would have been canyon.

Chain reaction had a good deal on it, down to 854. Spec is very similar to the €1049 2016 model.
