I'll be working in Altnagavin Hospital for 3 months. I'm not familiar with the North at all and was wondering where would be the best place to live? Is driving a ROI registered car up there not a good idea?

The hospital is in quite a nice area, Lisnagelvin, Kilfennan, Knightsbridge/Pelham Road, Sevenoaks and Summer Meadows all have nice houses and would be quiet enough areas. You'd be at most a 20 minute walk from work in all those areas There's a 24 hour Tesco at Lisnagelvin and a few more shops up at the Crescent Link Retail Park.

If you want to be closer to bars and restaurants the city centre has nice apartments available as well and you could get the bus into work handy enough, takes about 20 mins.

If you're looking at Google Maps, I would avoid areas around The Bolies (locally known as Top of the Hill) and Irish Street/Bann Drive/Dennet Gardens. These areas wouldn't be as nice and are at an interface. In saying that, there's rarely any bother.

The town is full of Donegal workers too so your car will be grand.

Do you want to be able to walk to work? There're loads of houses for rent close to the hospital, and as said above, the areas around there are nice. A lot of themwoild be mixed as well, so your car won't be an issue. In fact Derry is coming down with southern Irish cars with it being so close to the border.

Enjoy your time in the city, it's a nice place with friendly people. Any other questions don't be afraid to ask.

Thank to all for the replies. Will be having a look at some places close to the hospital.
