Hi so I wanted to ask if my choice of leaving cert subjects is a good choice
    Maths
    English
    Irish
    German
    Geography
    Biology
I wanted to do a business subject but since I've chose to do lcvp I can't because two of the subjects have to be from the specialist group so I'm wondering should I do physics or chemistry and if my choice of subject is good as I either want to do journalism, medical or business in college.
    Thanks.

Well, it seems a pretty broad range to me which leaves you plenty of options.

If you had your heart definitely set on medicine, it might be worth considering taking chemistry, but as you list three quite diverse areas there you may be best to keep it broad.

I'm going into third year and in skipping fourth year. Loads of people in my year are skipping fourth year as it's not great in my school. I want to chose my leaving cert subjects to get it out of the way and I have a good insight as our guidance counsellor came to talk to us twice during the year. I'm doing the core subjects and German. I've decided to do lcvp too. I've also decided to do geography as I get staright a's and find it interesting. Now I have two more subjects left and two of them have to be from the vocational groupings. I'm don't know which science subject to pick but I'm very good at science and always get staright a's but I also want to do business and I get staright a's too. I'm dropping home ec as I have no intention on doing it for leaving cert. so what two subjects should I pick from the vocational programme and I want to do a career in business or journalism. Thanks in advance!

    What're the vocational subjects?

Biology is normally a good bet for a science, and if you want to do Business/Accounting can't you sit them?

Straight As in the JC doesn't equate to straight As at LC level, though it does help.

Really? Maybe my school will let me off with that.😀

The vocational subjects are if your doing lcvp you have to pick two from the group. I really want to do biology, geography and business but that's not possible unless I take an eight subject which I don't want to.

So you've free reign over what subjects you want is it? It's not very clear what subjects are available to you.

You could your worst two in school and the one you've the most aptitude for as an extra subject, one subject you're good at normally isn't a huge ask especially the likes of Geog or Biology, which are easy to rote learn, I don't know about business as I haven't done it.

If you're doing 6 honours already, with no plans to drop any then don't bother with the 8th IMO.

I know you've said you don't want to, but keep your options open.

I'd definitely sit Business if you want to do it at 3rd Level. If you're even considering doing a science oriented college course do Biology, even as just a maybe, there is lots of time to change your mind on what you want to do.

I'm just after finishing 5th Year and I'm doing LCVP. The first thing I'll say is make sure you're 100% that you want to do LCVP. I would love the chance to go back and change my decision. Having said that, other things come into account, basically I hate it because I have a crap teacher who is not qualified for his job and therefore makes the class so slow and boring. But you might like it so basically what I'm saying is find out if you'd enjoy it before jumping straight in.

With regards to subject choice if you enjoy business do it but I will tell you it's all theory and learning. Don't necessarily do biology just because you think it's easy, many of my friends did that and are finding out its not so easy. Physics and chemistry are good if you like maths. Accounting is also a good option if you like problem solving or the accounts part of junior cert!

To be honest If I had your decision I would just pick the subjects you like the best and if they happen to be a combination for LCVP then so be it. LCVP is a good replacement for an ordinary level subject but if your planning on getting 'straight A's' I would just concentrate on doing well in the subjects I enjoy.

    Best of luck :)

Basing your subject choices around LCVP is fairly foolish in my opinion. The most points you can get in it is 70 points with most people getting 45. You should pick your favourite/best subjects and then look to see if you're eligible for LCVP.

Hi for my leaving cert subjects I've decided these subjects and wanted to make sure they were ok as I'm planning on doing a business related subject or journalism in college.
    Maths
    Irish
    English
    German
    Biology
    Chemistry/economics
    Business
    LCVP
The reason I have either chemistry or economics is because I really want to do economics but it depends on the teachers in my school so if I can't do economics I'm going to do chemistry.
