Dunno ? Didn't get time yet to research - your thoughts ? Have amended original posting !

The fact that the beak is pink would make me think it's albino - if you have a picture of the eye, and it's pink, then it's albino.

Some of you may recall this earlier post from me commenting on how plants survive in strange places.

This morning I just noticed this nettle growing on a broken branch of tree which had fallen into the Liffey!

Well during the summer and coming into Autumn, I have kept an eye on my ' nettles' when out for a walk along the Liffey.

In fact a few weeks ago, I was tempted to post this shot to show it still surviving while the water level was rising!

Anyway this morning on my walk I glanced over to see how my nettles were doing- and spotted the distinctive 'blue' colour alongside...

I unholstered my nikon and zoomed in and did a a bit of subsequent pp work

The moral of the story is that it pays to keep an eye on your nettles:):):)

I was getting worried earlier in the year too when I couldnt hear them but im glad to say there seems to be very healthy numbers around here. Had missed pics about 6 times during the summer between out of focus and too far away and not fast enough. I was out for a walk during the summer on a hilly boreen and I counted 2 flying 1 cuckooing away on a tree and another making what can only be described as monkey sound. Dont know what the hell was going on but it was Brilliant!

I'm delighted to hear there are healthy numbers where you are.
I have to confess,I've never actually seen a cuckoo.I've heard plenty through the years, but have never been lucky enough to see one.I guess I'll have to wait patiently for another year so.

The ones I've watched at Boora - a lot of the time they would drop out of the tree low down and just move further along to the next tree, as opposed to flushing out the top or side of the tree in full view.

I am always chuffed by having a Cuckoo in my BTO Garden Birdwatch species list, after one flew in and settled in a tree beside me as I had my coffee in the garden a few years back. 10 feet away.
