    What is it like on your battery life. I use Garmin personally and fall back onto google when im stuck. But I cant use google for too long .

    HUD is 9.99 extra isn't it. I paid 19.99 for europe and russia and found sygic fantastic in france, google maps suggested some pretty stupid routes and drops out of navigation a lot on multiple devices here for no apparent reason. I will say though that at one point google maps did a sudden reroute and when we drove up the slip road we could see a tailback stretching miles upon miles ahead so their WAZE traffic system obviously works. Google maps pois were sometimes better.

    Google maps can be used in offline mode (i.e. with no data connection) but unfortunately this can't be done for every country.
    For example, it's not possible to download Spain map data for Google offline use.
    Most countries are supported though and you can see a list at answer 2650347 in Google support or just search for "Google maps offline country list"

    You can load countries individually Ireland is 50Mb uk 339, France 574, Germany 593, Netherlands 97 etc. App itself takes about 100 mb with app plus language and voice files

    You can't do a new search or navigation on offline maps when your offline though so its like a paper map.
    If you really can't part with cash there are some cheap/free options based on open street map but a rubbish satnav will waste you the price of sygic on fuel in no time.

    You can use it in offline mode but if you deviate from your route you're up the creek so it's not a lot of use for navigation.

    Not sure on that one, I survive fine on the free OpenStreetmap maps, never saw the need to buy

    or alternatively buy any Nokia smartphone and get full offline maps for any country free, bonus you get a fantastic camera/media player/phone to boot.

    I use my Nokia Pureview 808 as my full-time Phone/camera/sat-nav/Media player(fm transmitter) and much more.

    NavFree is a free GPS program, download the maps for the country you want and hey presto, no roaming charges... it just got me all around Italy and Belgium this summer..

    nokia have been doing offline maps for over 8 years and are experts, the other phone manufacturers are all playing catch up in that department.

    Have you actually tried this before recommending it, its NOT a replacement for a sat nav/navigation app. Without an internet connection all you can do is pan and zoom the map , you can't search, can't navigate, each map is a 10 mile radius so you'd need about 60 to cover ireland. If you want to update the offline maps you'd have to do it manually every 30 days. Its just like a paper map with NO index and most POIs missing.

    Sygic probably saved me enough in diesel to pay for itself in a single holiday.

    Apps, apps, apps, apps. I agree nokia maps are great I kept my old 5320 until this year just as a satnav until I bought sygic. A windows phone would be useless to me as most of the apps I use daily at home and work aren't available.

    I did use it with great success last year in Paris and all its regions. A Lot further a field than 10 miles. Thats why I recommend it. When walking around it pinpointed where I was and I had saved places like our hotel and points of interest beforehand.

    I used a proper Garmin satnav for driving as phones are a bit fiddly for using fulltime as a driving aid.

    All im saying is its free. And very useful . Im not trying to say your app is better than google. Its simply an alternative mapping system.
    You sound like a salesman for Sygic!

    That's a great deal. I went with CoPilot two years ago as Sygic was too dear, I don't have a Nokia, and I don't want to be downloading Google maps. I always highly recommend CoPilot, it has never left me down, used it here and in France, but at this price I'd go with Sygic.

    You can use the map. You can't navigate with Google maps offline though. This thread is about navigation.
