Buying things in tins is pretty rare here in Canada. Most of our goods comes in boxes, plastic or cans. The best thing I recently found here was Typhoo teabags in a tin during the Christmas season. I was so excited that I bought 2 tins and now use one of them for my teabags. The other I use to keep my sewing things in it.

So what do you buy that comes in a tin?

What do you mean by can? A can could be considered a tin, couldn't it? Do you buy cans of beans? Can of sardines?

I buy cans of beans and cans of sardines. We call them cans here but a can could be considered a tin.

What I meant was a tin with a reusable lid....sometimes hinged on.

Treacle and over priced shortbread biscuits made for the tourist market.

Can you still buy hand rolling tobacco in tins? They were damn handy.

They were indeed. My father always had them, years ago, but I think you just can't get them anymore, more's the pity. I have a nearly-new Golden Virginia tin of his around the place somewhere.

Do you not "go to the can" to relieve yourself?

I go to the washroom. In fact, be right back. :)

I had several. When I did my apprenticeship we rolled our own just to collect the tins.

I kept all my hand made HSS turning tools in one, some of them were my best work. Then tungsten carbide and ceramic came along and made them all useless.
