Thats a bit over priced, knock €150 - €200 and it might be worth a look.
Mine is a 99 with a new clutch six months ago,new coil and leads 3 months ago, NCT to 6/13 and Tax to 1/13, 4 one week old winter tyres and Ill let it go for €800.

An Auto petrol Octavia is probably not at the top of many christmas lists..!
But, low miles, 2 owners, plenty of test, T/B done and pretty clean looking.

I rang this guy twice to go look at the car, first time he said he couldnt show it to me that evening as he was going out in it, the second time I rang it a different guy answered and I asked if I could go see it now, he said ok but the front brake pads are gone so I cant test drive it, I said ok but can I look at it ? whats the address ? Swords main st he said, I asked was it the garage at the top end of the street near the Hotel/pub and he said he was not a dealer.
I put the mobile number into google and came up with 3 other car ads with almost the same wording.
I recon its a dodgy dealer.

Gonna have to change in the next couple of weeks, if I want to keep the Corolla going I'll have to spend some money on her in the next week or two so looking for suggestions!

Would like something with a little more rear leg room than the Corolla, performance isn't really a concern as I'd rate a good MPG far higher at the moment, do about 15k a year of mixed driving and would have a long motorway spin at least once a fortnight so a diesel could make sense but wouldn't be a necessity, wouldn't want anything larger than a 1.6 in a petrol engine (i.e. can tolerate the higher tax if I'll be saving on fuel but wouldn't want both), four doors is a necessity, would lean more towards a manual than an auto, Current NCT and a good Service History are essential.

If it looks nice, great, but unless it's a bright pink multipla, I'm unlikely to get put off. Can stretch to 2k but would rather stick to under 1,500 and keep the few quid to tax it and sort out any niggles.

A motorway spin once every forthnight doesnt warrant a diesel I'd imagine!

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,176 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

I wouldn't think so either, my point was that my drive to and from work is mixed driving (some suburbs and half the M50) so it'd be getting motorway every day and a good 1 hour plus run on a motorway once a fortnight or so which I'd have thought enough to keep a diesel from some of the problems they can face when only used for city driving...

I'm thinking something like a 1.6 Avensis, 1.4 Almera etc. is probably my best bet but would hate to miss out on a good 156 or the likes...

Cheap, reliable, reasonably efficient (46MPG), old style diesel. But very slow:

I've yet to see one, that is nice but it's not fast by a long stretch.

I get a perverse pleasure in trying to find the absolute cheapest bangers online with test. I concede that the wiser thing to do would be to aim higher towards the 1000 mark and get something you'd enjoy to drive but meh :D

Why are Mazda 6s so keenly priced?

There has got to be a catch.

1.8 tax and perceived high running costs.

The one above for a grand is unusually, almost suspiciously cheap even factoring in the rough bodywork.
