Laptop around 800€

    Specs Required

    Intel i5
    SSD at least 120GB
    8GB Ram at least
    No bigger than 15.6" screen
    Dedicated GPU (run newish games smoothly on medium settings)
    Windows 7 is preferred but no OS is good also.
    HDMI port
    Kinda Portable

    Budget is around 800, no more than 1000€.

    15.6 Tosh w. Ivy Core i7 quad, 8 GB RAM and Radeon HD 7670M (2 GB), €749 at Komplett.

    No SSD but if you can stretch your budget by another 100 Euro, order a nice 128 GB SSD and an enclosure for the original 500 GB HDD, sorted.

    You won't find a laptop with a Solid State Disk within your budget, some hybrid drive maybe, where the SSD serves as cache for the platter HDD. If you want a real SSD, you'll have to upgrade yourself with an aftermarket product.

    This sounds good, i assume it would just be as basic as buying the enclosure, popping the ssd into it, and swapping out the Original HD with the SSD enclosure yes?

    Yes.

    Image the original disk first and then restore the image onto the SSD (or clone directly if you have a USB > SATA adapter. Or (and that is what I would do) install the OS from scratch, this way you won't have any of the bloat usually installed by OEMs

    Ya il just be reinstalling the OS again it. Then be using the original as an external HD. Thanks

    Another option is to remove the disc drive and put the spare HDD in there in an optical bay enclosure. I've done that in mine, think I used the disc drive 4 times in total before making the switch. Can always get a USB enclosure for it if needed.

    Can that be done on all laptops tho? What about the space it leaves on the side of the laptop?

    I can't say for certain, as doing it to my own laptop was the only time I've done it. It seems that there is a pretty standard size for laptop disc drives (not sure about slot-loading types).

    The hard drive caddy comes with a faceplate, but you can take the faceplate off the disc drive and pop it on - it should look as if the laptop's original disc drive was still there. No lights or response to pressing the button though.

    I found a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQuJrswnJ5g) but for some reason they didn't change the faceplate.


    The advice I found at the time was to put the SSD in the laptops main storage slot, and move the HDD to the optical caddy. I'm not sure what the difference in speed is between the two though.

    Nope ,SOL only started building custom lappys about 6/7 months ago .

    Very competitive price wise though

    Was amazing pricing when they started, only OK now:(. PC Specialist beats them with most builds lately.

    can anyone find any more info on this laptop? I can't even find it on toshibas own website!

    google just brings up Spanish links priced at €644 :rolleyes:
