Right heres the situation. I have a fairly good gaming pc which serves me well.

However i just moved into a smaller place and can no longer setup a desk with monitor.

I have a 17" Laptop with a good screen and would like to run a cable from PC into the laptop and use laptop as a monitor. Mouse and keyboard plugged into PC obviously.

Is there some kind of video hardware with a Video input that i could use?

HDMI and/or VGA ports on a laptop are output only, there is no way that you'll be able to use the laptop screen as a monitor/slave for an external PC.

If you have desk space for a 17" laptop then you have space to simply close the laptop and sit a flat screen monitor on top of it, see if you can buy a 2nd hand model on adverts.ie

here's a few, you can bring your laptop to the vendor's house to test it if you're interested in buying one of them....

You want to use the display of your 17" laptop as monitor for your gaming PC? Not possible. At least not without massive hardware modifications.

Besides, the base of my 30" LCD monitors is smaller than a 17" laptop. I can easily setup one of these wherever I can put down a 17" laptop and still have enough space for mouse and keyboard.

What kind of "smaller place" are we talking here? A shared cell in the Joy? :D

Hard to explain but basically i have to use the kitchen table for the laptop so my 24" monitor is too big to have permanently on the table.

Technically i could put a monitor there but its just too big to have permanently and a pain to keep taking it out and setting it up.

If i was single no bother at all but people have to eat at the table etc..

Maybe there is a video editing card with an input no?

    Not gonna work...

Got 88 yoyos for an 18.5" monitor? ;)

Might aswell just use me own monitor in that case. Might set it up in the bedroom or something.
