Passport arrived today, But it is a 5 year passport ? She paid €89 euro for express passport for 10 years.. She send it on 10th of July. Why five years instead of 10 years ? She is 17 years old. What should she do ?

Simple, 5 yrs as she is under 18. You were charged the wrong amount by an post and have to go back to them.

She should do nothing as she is under 18 and you are the guardian who applied on her behalf.

That's strange. The passport I am renewing at the minute was a 10 year passport I got when I was 17. Unless something's changed since 2002?

An Post as i have already stated. They took the fee, the passport service just issued the passport that was correct for your daughters age.

rmmoo - yes that was changed as you had 9 yrs olds going around with baby pics.

Fair enough. I've had to live with a passport photo of me in my school uniform looking like a spotty, stroppy teenager with bad eyebrows for most of my twenties. 5 year passport is definitely a better idea!

If you were charged to much in the Post Office you will be automatically issued a refund by the Passport Office. An Post pay all the money over so a fee of €80 would have been paid to the PPO for your daughters application. When your daughters application was approved a refund amount would have come up automatically. It will take a few weeks though to get it back. It would be no harm to just send an email enquiry about it to the Passport Office - NOT AN POST.

How do they send the money?
    Cheque in the post?

  • Registered Users Posts: 252 ✭✭netopia

Yeah a cheque will go out to the application address.

perhaps re-post without the text speak and you will probably get replies...most people won't bother to try to read your post when it is in text. I know I gave up after the first line.

Agreed. I now have a headache after trying to decipher the OP

Bad text speak and bad grammer.

    Struggling to read the OP.

Mine took less than 10 working days via Passport Express but if you used 'text speak' on your sons passport application no wonder it's taking them a while to sort it out!

I have 3 passports sent by passport express on the 12th July.

Have been at status 'Printed' since last Thursday.

Flying out on Friday - getting tight! Impossible to get through by phone, no response to my email.

18 days later - 12 working days at least gone already. Why am I paying for passport express if they are not fulfilling the 'contract' terms?

Frustrating, worrying, annoying in equal measures...if they won't answer phones or emails what can I do?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone could help me with these...
Got no reply from the embassy by e-mail and gave up trying to ring them after waiting 10 minutes on hold. I will e-mail them again but would anyone be able to help me with this?

    I need to supply:

    -Additional form of photo ID
Has anyone tried this with an expired student or photo library card? Also, is it definite that only originals are accepted of everything but driving licences (and I don't have a licence so that's out)? The wording on the application form makes it sound like copies of everything are OK.

    - Documentary evidence to show use of name
How many different things am I supposed to send? Have a few pay slips and bank statements.

    - Evidence of residence at application address
Have savings account statements and letters from hospital in London (I see a specialist there even though my home address is in NI). Does this need to be within the last 3 months? Application form says nothing about how recent it needs to be. And again, how many do they usually need? Is one proof of address enough or do they need 2 or 3?

Absolutely appalling service by the embassy here - have tried to ring 3 times and been kept on hold for up to 15 minutes and have sent THREE e-mails which have gone unanswered for more than a fortnight. Good job this is no longer urgent. However, I still want to make sure I get it right and that I don't waste time and money having to reapply.

You should wait at the phone, my daughter has to wait 20 minute for the caller to answer, The caller will sort out the problem. There is a big queue on the phone, if you put down the phone, you will be back to the end of the queue if ring again. My daughter send the express post on 10th July. recieved on 27th July.

I sent off a Passport Express application on July 18th. Checked tracker online and it said on the 19th of July that it was received and registered. It is still saying the same today (31 July) but that the issue date is tomorrow 01 August. Does that mean it is going to be posted tomorrow, eventhough the online tracker is still showing that it is still at first stage?

    Thanks in advance :)

I've been reading this thread and avidly following it recently.

My own situation is that my passport expired at the end of May, and am going away on holiday in the middle of August.

Being based near London, I got a copy of the application form sent to me from the London passport office, completed it, witnessed; then took a morning off to go and personally hand it over the counter.

I did this for 2 reasons:
    1: It would speed up the renewal process and guarantee it not getting 'lost' in the system somewhere;

2: My witness did not have a stamp, so could not stamp my photos or the form. Therefore, if this was a problem, then at least it would be picked up there and then; as opposed to 2 weeks later when they came to review my application and then reject it.

Anyway, I was nervous of the timings as I had just over 5 weeks to get it all done and back to me in time.

Here's a summary of the dates with regards to my standard application:
Monday 9th July: Handed form over the counter in London
Wednesday 11th July: Application 'received' in Dublin, on the DFA passport tracker
"Issue Date" was set as Wednesday 25th of July
Thursday 26th of July: Application being processed
Friday 27th of July: Application approved, printed and posted to me
Tuesday 31st July: Postman delivers new passport :)

So basically 3 weeks to process my standard application, from London; with no escalations, urgent 'flagging', express processing, etc. Just a standard application.

So I am ever so grateful for the quick turnaround - especially having being told (at the counter) that it would be a minimum 5 weeks turnaround.

Even more chuffed as I'm assuming it's their busiest period of the year.

So it can be done :)

But I really was dreading the application getting rejected (due to no witness stamp). I was mentally planning a trip to Dublin to get an emergency passport, etc.

Anyway; I just thought I'd share this. Thanks for listening :)

    Hi again,

I've been trying to ring passport office since yesterday morning and can't get through, and have emailed twice and no reply. I am travelling Monday and I really want to find out where my passport is at this stage. It is due to be issued today but on the tracking website it just says "received and registered".

Should I go up to Dublin? Will they give it to me over the counter. Or are there any other numbers for the office? Been trying since yesterday morning to ring and have used over 10eur credit just from dialling and getting the machine.

When will you be needing that passport for travel ? If Next week, i would go on Monday if it does not arrive by Friday, I am sure you will get it by friday. Sorry for the loss of €10 on credit, unfair, They shouldn't took your credit while waiting on the phone.

I got a call yesterday evening at half 6 from a strange number so I ignored it but they left a voicemail and it was the passport office. Anyway it was first passport for my daughter and we needed to put in either parents long birth cert or passport as children born in ROI since 2005 aren't entitled to citizenship automatically. They're holding the application and I'm heading to post office now to send passport in. I checked the forms and it does state this but we missed it.

Travelling on Monday. I dont know why it used so much credit for a few seconds on machine. I'm afraid to keep trying as it's using so much credit and now I may have to factor in the cost of travelling up to Dublin from Galway.

If this evening you see the tracking still said the same, I would go to Dublin tomorrow if i were you. If it said Paasport Printed this evening roughly at 18.45pm. You will get it on Friday.

Application went in on Wednesday 18th due to be issued on 31st July status hasn't changed at all.

Not going till 14th August just worried it won’t get here on time or something up with the application as it's a child's passport.
