Or buy a PS3, makes a standalone BluRay player pointless unless its under 100

    Complete and utter rubbish.

I wish all ye PS3 fanboys would stop bringing up the PS3 whenever there's a Bluray thread. Everyone knows about the PS3 and, shockingly enough, not everyone want to pay €400 on a bluray player, regardless if it can play games or surf the net.

The OP posted a cheap BD player that will suit a lot more budgets/pockets than a PS3.

If people want to spend €400 on a BD player, I'm sure they'll consider the PS3. If they only want to spend a couple of hundred euro, the PS3 doesn't come into it!

    Now, back on topic.

Thanks OP, good cheap BD player there, the tevion stuff in my limited experience is usually fine, a bit basic in terms of GUI or user interface, but loaded to the gills with extras that only appear on high end equipment.

Plus, it should be noted that the PS3 sounds like a jet turbine when it's on.

Tevion stuff is ok but id fork out the extra 10 for a sony all right . Im more interested in the movies tempted by the hulk and spider man 3 as they are movies made for blue ray.

It appears to have a USB socket. While it might be pushing it to hope it plays MKV, it might play DivX/Xvid via pendrive?

How about 20€ less than the aldi one? The sony 350 is here in power city
for 170€:). No sign of the free blurays at that price though!

BTW, i think that "the only BD player worth buying is the ps3" argument is complete BS at this stage.

Or get a Sony BDP350 from richersounds.com for STG£139.95 with (I think) free shipping for Boardies or for STG£153.90 with a 5 year warranty.

I wouldn't. Tevion quality is good and the after sales service is excellent.
I had a problem with a 2.5 year old Tevion DVD recorder. I had no receipt, but the help desk said it was OK. They talked we through a firmware update to sort out a lip sync problem. They said they would replace the unit if they problem wasn't fixed. (It was and I still have the unit.)

But Richersounds states on their website that it is only available in store. Are you sure it can be delivered here.

Either you are telling lies intentionally, you have never been near a PS3 when it is on or your PS3 is damaged.

A jet turbine? I can't hear mine when it is turned on.

Have to agree with Mossy here... I have the PS3 and it's super quiet... the 360 on the other hand, that is one noisy bugger if you playing the games off the disk!

I'd be more inclined to go with a Tevion than a Sony, but I'm still not buying a Blu-Ray player until there is a full multi-region one available.

Most of my DVDs are from the US. I'm fairly sure the Sony BD would be region-locked on both formats, but there would be a better chance the Tevion would be region-free (or 'freeable') on DVD at least.

If I heard it was completely region-free (not beyond the realms of possibility) I'd snap it up ASAP if it wasn't gone already.

...And no, I have no intention of buying a PS3. Sony are in a hole and they keep digging. PSPGo? Haha!
I'll not be giving them a hand out until they move their gaming mindset from graphics & technology to originality, fun & gameplay.
(Yes, Little Big Planet looks good to me, but not 400euros good enough)

Why would anyone lie intentionally about that??

My 60Gb PS3 has 3 fan powers loud, really loud and holy crap it's about to explode loud. Has done since day one, it's fairly well ventilated, maybe mine is faulty or something but it is loud.

Mine goes like that about 1 hour into playing regular dvd's - games and blu-rays are fine. The processing power to upscale dvd's is so intense that it heats up a lot more and needs to cool down. It takes more power to play a regular dvd than a blu ray .... of course if i disable the upscaling i imagine it would stop but its not too bad in my case.

I multi-regioned my Sony S350 using the instructions on AVForums, and an All4One remote that I borrowed from Argos.
Simple job, and now plays all region dvd's.

Don't think it can be done with the BD side of things though.

Edit: Sorry for going miles OT!

You get what you pay for. Although the picture will be great, the sound will suck, as most HD-TV's have sh|te speakers. The PS3 has an optical out, which can be plugged to a reciever, and from there, to a 5.1 (or above) sound system.

My father got a cheap Sony BluRay Player for a €100 with the TV, and it has an optical output, which hooked up to the Yamaha system with ease. The newest firmware also allows it to play DivX movies from CD's or DVD's on the BluRay player.

:eek:Jebus at that price, it would definitely be cheaper to buy a PAL BD player, as well as an NTSC one

Yeah when the fan comes on, on my PS3 it puts the Xbox to shame on the noise front! Really loud! Keep expecting Maverick & Goose to be doing a fly by outside my window!

I should add that this is only when it's really hot and seems to be more to do with ambient temperature.

If this is the case, then it is wrong and if your still in warranty Sony will normally replace it.
