Must say that I always get a bit of a buzz whenever I spot a Kingfisher.

Of course, spotting one and getting a pic are two different things entirely.

Spotted this fella zipping along the Dodder today .. and this is where he alighted! Other side of the river.

That pic was taken with the 600 zoom fully extended

This is a cropped version.- It’s not going to win any prizes. But any day I get a kingfisher photo I always treat myself to a pint of Guinness or 2.
    Happy days.
(I do that most days anyway!)

Just see on the Birdwatch site that the description of the chaffinch in Irish is:

    Rí Rua

Beautiful name.. presume it's because of its 'rusty red' colours in places

There is a large grassy bank( maybe even a knoll) across the way.. and I’ve noticed gulls coming and going most days.

I just assumed they were common gulls – but as I got a bit closer today I noticed that they are Black Headed Gulls.
Nothing special there I know, but just wondering why one has a ‘full’ black head while most others just have the spots?

Striking red color on this , I'm sure it's some kind of fungus, growing on a piece of rotting willow

the adults are just beginning to come into summer breeding plumage, which is the full 'black' head. Its actually more of a dark brown. In winter they revert to white head.

Keps I'm totally in awe of that Cormorant picture! The blacks, the whites, the colours, the detail in the feathers, the detail in the bill, the sharpness, the composition - absolutely amazing!

Edit: The pale white/grey background is perfect too!

    @OYE
Thanks indeed. Those comments mean a lot :)

    Added later

BTW - this is the original image.
Taken with the zoom fully extended to 600mm. On monopod.
Even though it's a cheap enough lens, I find the combo of that Tamron lens with the full frame camera works well for me.
Taken RAW and photoshop can do so much with RAW.

The background is the weir at Milltown- where the cormorants spend a lot of leisure time( and poo time).

Nah... try to stick with birds/wildlife rather than domestic.
    Sorry
