I think these are all great actors, but my question is what do you guys think has been the best perfomance they have given and why.

    Peter Sellers
    Robert De Niro
    Tim Roth
    Morgan Freeman
    Samuel L. Jackson
    Marlon Brando
    Gary Oldman
    Robert Carlyle
    Sean Penn
    James Stewart
    Christopher Walken

Thanks to anyone who finds the time to do this.
    :)

I think the best of them all would be de Niro - but not for any specific film - However I would feel that the following were fantastic performances...

Peter Sellers - Pink panther films - Funny as hell
    Robert De Niro - Heat/raging bull/this boys life/goodfellos/cape fear/deer hunter

Tim Roth - Wouldnt rate him in this group
    Morgan Freeman - 7
    Samuel L. Jackson - Pulp fiction/Jackie Brown
    Marlon Brando - Apoc now/Godfather
Gary Oldman - Leon definatly - his direction in nil by mouth
Robert Carlyle - Wouldnt rate him in this group
Sean Penn - Dead man walking (superb) - Carlitos way
James Stewart - Rear window - superb
Christopher Walken - Deer hunter/A view to a kill  / Everything this guy has done is superb.

You left out al pachnio and Cary Grant over Robert Carlyle and Tim roth

Not a fan of De Niro. Really liked Wag the Dog, though.
    Tim Roth
I thought Tim Roth's performance as Thade in the new Planet of the Apes was one of the best things about that film. Genuinely menacing.
    Morgan Freeman
Maybe Nurse Betty, because it was a pretty unexepected performance. But probably Deep Impact - I could sleep very well at night, knowing Morgan Freeman was the leader of the Free World.
    Samuel L. Jackson
    Jackie Brown, maybe.
    Marlon Brando
Again, not a fan. Don Juan?
    Gary Oldman
State of Grace? True Romance? Romeo is Bleeding? Leon? Sid and Nancy?
    Robert Carlyle
Hate, Hate, HATE Robert Carlyle. Refuse to answer.
    Sean Penn
Carlito's Way, or Dead Man Walking.
    James Stewart
Maybe It's A Wonderful Life. More likely Harvey.
    Christopher Walken
His few minutes in True Romance are amazing.
    Likewise for Joe Dirt.

Here are a few of them anyway

Robert De Niro - Godfather part2
    Morgan Freeman - Shawshank Redemption
Samuel L. Jackson - Pulp Fiction
Sean Penn - Dead man walking

But you left out Al Pachino.......I think he was great in Scent of a Woman but he nails any role he's in

    ;)

Why are you so surprised? Or have you only seen Robert Carlyle in The Beach and The World is not enough?
Because his perfomances in The Priest, Trainspotting, Riff Raff, Go Now, Ravenous, Angela's Ashes and in one certain episode of the TV series "Cracker" certainly prove otherwise, as i think he's actually one of the best, versatile and more underrated actors around.
    Just my opinion of course.

Sellers - Dr Strangelove or Dr Stranglove (think about it)
Jimmy Stewart - Rear Window or Harvey
    Sean Penn - Carlitos Way
Christopher Walken - Reading out a children bedtime story on
Jonathon Ross' Channel 4 show one night. Fantastic!

Can't comment on the rest as I hav'nt seen enough of thier work
    or am not a fan.

    Mike.

As long as it involves a bit of shouting "HOO-HAA!" and looking vaguely threatening, sure. I'd like to see him do comedy, or, I dunno, a vaguely sympathetic role, or just something with no "HOO-HAA"-ing in it. Don't get me wrong, I like a good ol' HOO-HAA as much as the next man, in moderation.
