Covington Catholic school controversy.
On Saturday news broke on CNN, MSNBC etc etc that kids wearing MAGA hats had approached a native American war vet and chanted "build the wall" many celebrities on Twitter called for these kids to be doxxed and action taken against them that would have seen their lives ruined, the kids (age 14-16) received death threats along with their families and in interviews many parents have said they now worry some of the kids are depressed and potentially suicidal from being the largest news story in America all weekend.
Anyway, a near 2 hour video was released a bit later that shows a completely different story, it shows that the kids while waiting for a bus were verbally abused by a group of black nationalists, they were called crackers, ******s (gay slurs) colonizers, incest children etc, some of the kids in the group were black and they were called nuggets and uncle Tom's so the kids asked permission from their chaperone to sing a school chant to drown out the torrent of vile abuse they were receiving.
At this point a group of native Americans approach the kids, they single out one kid and march up to him beating a drum in his face, he stays motionless and silent with an awkward smile on his face, Its a kid, how would you have reacted when that age and in that hostile environment? The kids did not chant build a wall or anything like it, they were then again racially abused by the native Americans telling them to go home to Europe and get off their land etc. Shortly after in the video you can see the Native Americans walking off declaring victory over the kids shouting "wee won!" Etc.
I am simply amazed by this episode, how the story of the day wasn't about the racist homophobic abuse against kids from the black nationalists, that has hardly been mentioned in the news/media, like it never happened, is that the bigotry of low expectations in play? Nether was the aggressiveness of the native Americans, marching up to kids, invading their space, telling them to get off their land, racial abuse and then declaring victory over the 14-16 year olds as they walked away dispelling any notion they were there for pure reasons. No the story was a kid smiling, standing still and silent.
I hope this is the low point required for people to change, the media need to be held accountable, people need to stop being so partisan that they would be happy to see young lives ruined just so their "team" could score a point. These kids even now the news networks are backtracking and offering updates on the situation will still never get back to the lives they had, thousands of tweets have judged them, many sentencing them to death also, plenty of blue tick Twitter profiles involved yet they will probably receive no punishment.
