Looking for some guidance on disc pad compatability.

Recently needed to change pads on a 2021 105 bike with hydraulic disc brakes. Outgoing pads were L03A with the fins. Couldn't get same again so shop put in K03S. I see some L03A available online so might buy them for future supplies.

Separately I have a 2019 bike with Tiagra Hydraulic Disc brake setup and I'm pretty sure rear pads are gone/going. Rather than have a load of shops tell me they don't have stock I'd rather just buy in advance. Bike spec says brakes are BR-RS405. Is knowing it's BR-RS405 enough for me to figure out which pads to buy?

I found this chart which seems to cover the topic in detail.

My questions

1) Am I correct saying any K03, K04 or L03 will do the job? Or is there more I need to consider?

2) Will both the 105 (above) and Tiagra hyd brake setup take both finned and non finned pads? I have found both L03A and K03S available online and based on the chart it seems to suggest both will work.

Thanks 🙂

Hey All,

So I bought a Giant Contend SL 2 disc over the summer, and although I don't yet need new brake pads for my discs I want to buy some in advance.

Now I'm finding it hard to determine which pads I can use with this setup. After some digging it appears that the brakes on my bike are:
Tektro HD-R310/510
http://www.tektro.com/products.php?p=229
Which take the following Tektro pads:
http://www.tektro.com/products.php?p=228

But I can't seem to find them in any of the regular online shops. Are there generic pads that will work, or certain specs I can use to buy other brands pads?

Any help would be appreciated.

Guys,
I am going to buy & replace chain and related kit on my Giant CRS 3.0 (2008). I don't know much about bikes (at the moment) but hoping to learn. I am going to attempt to match specs from current bike cassette ratio and teeth "ratio" on the current crankset to keep things straightforward.
What would people think of the following:
SRAM PC870 8 Speed Chain
SRAM PG850 8 Speed MTB Cassette
Clarks 72mm Alumium Triple Contour Brake Shoes

I am having difficulty finding an 8 speed crankset to replace my Alivio FC-M411 crankset 3x7/ 8 speed 48-38-28, can anyone suggest what I could get to match/ that would be compatible with the above setup? From what I can tell SRAM seems to be better but I think Shimano and SRAM are inter-compatible.

The bottom bracket (I think the thing that in the frame of the bike and which the crankset attaches too) on the bike is Shimano UN26 Square Taper Bottom bracket 68x122.5mm - English Thread

Cheers,
Fi.

P.S.: sorry for the rubbish title!!

The load on my boat trailer is approximately 800 kg - boat (Shetland 570) is 650 kg - engine (Mariner 55 hp) is 100 kg - and contents are definitely less than 50 kg....but am rounding up for the sake of it.

The trailer would therefore be considered a category 02 vehicle under the new regulations that came into force in 2012.

What I am not sure of is:

- whether or not my trailer requires brakes to be fitted or whether it is exempt?

- if it need brakes fitted does it then need Type Approval?

There are companies selling "trailer kits" which would allow me to upgrade the trailer to a braked trailer - the kits are expensive - and if type approval is required after this then I wonder if it just not better to try and buy a newer secondhand trailer?

Hi folks, I drive 72 miles a day in my megane and when I got up this morning and drove to work everything was fine happy days. I left work at 4:30 and as I was driving through town I felt my brakes were quite hard and sensitive. When I got onto wider more open roads I noticed that the power in my car wasnt doing very well. I was struggling to get up to 60 and 80kms an hour which on the old n9 isnt very safe!

I pulled over in the garage and turned off the engine and noticed I could hear a slight whoosh of air as I pressed on the brake. Called the mechanic and drove it to him. Straight after leaving the garage I noticed an improvement , the brakes felt much freer and the power was back. Mechanic checked under the bonnets and couldnt find any issue. Took it for a spin and power and brakes were perfect.

Any ideas as to what caused my issue?

I changed the bulb in the high mounted stop light (I think that's what you call it anyway) today. The original bulb had blown so I looked in the owner manual and did as it said.

Opened the boot, used a flat head screwdriver to press on the springs and release the light fitting. I changed the bulb and put in a new LED bulb (might as well be all hi-tech and fancy eh? ). Tested the bulb worked, no problem.

I put the fitting back in and closed the boot. But it doesn't snap in, the fitting is still loose. I tried pressing on the clips the other way to see if they need to hook on to something but it's really fiddly to see in there, even with light.

What's the story with getting the fitting to securely lock in to place?

There's only 50k on the clock and it passed the NCT recently.

To cut a long story short I have to change the rear brake discs in my 06 trafic van in order to pass the doe. I have changed brake discs and pads myself in the past so I have some mechanical ability.

My question is this, having been told that the brake disc and wheel bearing will be almost impossible to seperate, I have ordered a bearing kit aswell as brake discs, will it be a difficult task tofit the bearing and disc??? eg is it much more difficult than fitting a standard brake disc???

Any advise is much appreciated.

Hi all, Hopefully somebody can guide me through the procedure of checking/ adjusting/ renewing the handbrake cable on my brothers 2001 MK3 Mondeo saloon. We changed the rear discs, pads, brake hoses and calipers (which had siezed solid) at the weekend. They seem somewhat an eccentric set up in certain aspects. But having said that I can't say I saw the set up on too many different models to draw comparisons.

We also changed the handbrake cables running from the central divider to each caliper. Dropped the exhaust first then the heat sheild and changed em. One had siezed and the other had broke I believe. Before that the handbrake had not being working in the slightest for well over a year I think. Now the handbrake is working but is very very weak. Hardly even strong enough to pass a NCT I'd imagine. I understand from the Haynes manual (a poor enough book in my opinion) that the handbrake is self adjusting in these. Don't exactly know how a self adjusting handbrake works but would have thought a few pulls of it would do whats needed. However, no such luck. Could anybody advise what possibly needs to be done? Could it be the case that the inner handrake cable running from the handrake to the central divider needs to be changed or otherwise as may be the case if we possibly overloooked some step?

Any advice or tips are going to be much appreciated.

If any of you is willing to buy an ORBEA bike, please, read carefully.

On the 29th of December 2009, i bought an ORBEA Alma, MTB, from an Orbea Distributor Alliance (ODA), in the basque country. I got a decent deal as I am from the hometown where the bikes are manufactured (not anymore the carbon ones at least).

After 5 months of use, the day after my first competition i went to wash the bike, and i found that the frame was cracked on the back fork, just underneath the chain. I attach the report from ORBEA.

Being a lifetime warraty frame, made on Carbon Fibre, and being sold as the pretigious frame that Julien Absalon, World Champion on XC, they told me the frame broke due to some bad use of the bike. They think the rear derailluer hit the frame and caused the damage.

The result has been that after trying to deal with them for 2 weeks all i got was a deal from the bike-shop. They kept the broken frame and sold me a brand new 2009 model for 290€.

The bike, brand new costs about 2'5k and i had to spend extra money on a lifetime warranty product that they consider was broken by the rear derailleur set by them on the bike.

My point is, that how could a frame break because the derailleur hit it? I guess that then is due to a bad design of the bike, or not suitable derailleur for the bike.

Hi All,

I am rebuilding a brake calliper and i have some light corrosion on the piston,

The Haynes manual suggests using Crocus Cloth but where might i get it, I have tried around and no body has even heard of it,

I know i should probably get a new calliper but this is only an old jeep that will never see the road,

So if anyone can suggest where to buy Crocus Cloth it would be great,

Thanks,

Hi guys, I know this is mainly a road forum but still the odd MTBer or two so here we go anyway! I went out on the bike today and had a minor fall which resulted in a bent rotor. Best beyond repair I feel and it had been well used so I don't really mind. It's my first time replacing them so am looking for ideas and opinions. Its for a Giant XTC 3 with Giant's own brand hydraulic disc brakes but a light rider at 55kg so I will stick with 6-bolt 160mm I think which is what I already have and seems optimal for my style of riding. I usually get all my stuff online so had been looking at some of the following, please let me know what you would recommend me to get! Thanks in advance, I genuinely really appreciate your help and look forward to hearing back from you. Cheers!

(Please feel free to highlight others I have not mentioned as these are just a quick few I came across. Also, whats the story with the floating discs? Would you advise me to get them or stay away from them? Any additional purchases needed for compatibility issues?)

Avid Clean Sweep G2 @ €27.90
Avid Clean Sweep G3 @ €27.90
Shimano XT RT75 @ €22.31
Shimano XT RT76 @ €30.12
Hope Mono Mini/M4 @ €24.54
Hope Mono Mini/M4 Saw @ €24.54
