Dairy Chit Chat- Please read Mod note in post #1

Recently we saw three posters close their accounts over disagreements in the dairy threads. While there is a lot of frustration and discontent with current milk prices and the processing industry, the recent tendency for dairy threads to become tit-for-tat arguments isn’t tolerable for those not involved.

All farming sectors go through difficult periods and during such times there may need to be changes in how threads are moderated.

Dairy threads are going to be more closely monitored and subject to stricter moderation for a while.

To that end we won’t tolerate baiting of posters, constantly reviving old arguments, posters with agendas or crusading for a cause.

Whether it’s discussion of the business or politics of the dairy or other sectors, we expect civility and tolerance toward each other and other opinions as diversity of opinion is needed as a source of different ways of looking at a situation.

Also please be aware that what you may post as light-hearted banter can be read totally differently by someone adversely affected by the subject matter and evoke a reaction you hadn’t intended.

Have you actually got urea to N30?
I'm happy enough to get it to N20..in fact that's about the limit of my patience!

Sprayed a mix of N20 at 8 units/ha and 2kg of MgS04 on grass and turned it a deep shade of blue...didn't seem to grow any better though.

N28, needed An to get higher results though as still aren't set-up to go to that with urea as need heat. It's not the end of the world n20 you just up the rate but means more everything involved in getting product to the field where as want a system to match 2 sprayers on demand as it would be hard to store any amount. Never mind being able to mix compounds together iykwim. Have a big pump which is ok can recirculate the entire batch pretty fast.
My uncle has been recommended mgso4 on his oats and barley, something makes me wonder they ordered some for blending with dairy farmers fert and due to drop in use don't want to carry it over.

I had my dairy kt discussion group application form filled in ready to send off but it's ripped up and in the bin now. Something about the terms and conditions was bugging me as I filled it in yesterday so I re-read them. As part of the ts and cs you have to provide a huge amount of information and then give every fcuker and his wife access to it. Days of work for a small return and personally 75k wouldn't pay me for that info nevermind to say €750.

Things have come a long way. The first discussion group we were in teagasc paid a sub to the group the same as any other member to be part of it. Twenty years later we have this ball of sh1te.

That's not the worst one. There's a term in it basically giving the dept free access to all info for "verification and assessment purposes". The list of things they could want to verify and assess is endless. Tbh the 750 wouldn't pay you for the extra work you have to do to comply with the T&C's.

Have simillar reservations as others here ,the pm one praticurally bugs the shot out of me as I feel Tegasc are way too loose with that info printing mic key waving totally unreleastic and false cop on elite farms .according to it we work for nothing ,our land is free and we're all debt free .the general public don't know this but I bet retailers etc etc know it and use it as a stick to beat price and our income down .i probably won't sign it but want to continue our discussion group which has been going for years .the 2 hours we meet once a month is time well spent and great for picking up ideas .our group needs new members which now there's money involved won't be an issue ,like dep well get the usual naysayers who turn up sign attendance sheet ,go to minimum meetings and contribute frig all then nowhere to be seen .we started off with 18 members and ended up with a good core group of 12 who participate ,contribute and add value to meetings .we had one new guy who came in 2 years ago and is now chairman of group and a breath of fresh air .he would'be smallest farmer in group and works off farm ,totally irrelevant I know but new guys like him are great to get in .sadly he'd be in minority

Worth around 2.5% on Irish market in other food products. I would say it's worth next to nothing elsewhere.

In spec being the key phrase there because practically no fr gets a bord bia quality bonus despite the fact that the farms are quality assured.
I know its old ground now but its some abuse by factories of the scheme.
The term quality should never have anything to do with the size of an animal's arse

It's the norm here. Farm info must be updated at most every 24hrs. The first fine for this is €3300. Dept of Ag has 24/7 remote access to my computer. My accounts can (and have) be used as they wish, although anonymously.

Whatever about the dept it's the quangos are the main issue. Things we are paying for that give us f-all return. They are looking for profit monitors as well. does that include access to your financial info dawg?
