There actually used to be some separate beaches for men (I think one of the ones up farther up near Blackrock), for swimming in the nudes and stuff.

Ladies beach was where the small shop is on the beach, at one time it was ladies only allowed there and only men were allowed to bathe at Blackrock

I thought it was called Ladies beach because the water was shallower and more gently protected due to a breakwater.
Either way its sexist and needs a rename! Now!

The reason it's called ladies beach is sexist I think a priest or bishop back in the day said that's where the women should go as to not entice men ( I may be completely of but it's something like that) the name has stuck around till now and I doubt it'll be changed as it's engrained in memory
