Just an update to this:

The cheapest quote my partner got was €3300 for a 1.1 c3 with axa.
Ended up looking around for Insurance for myself and her as a named driver.
Bought our little c3 got insured with axa for 1950.
I've only got a leaner permit for just over a year, its pretty crazy that I can get a much cheaper quote than her despite the fact I've only got a learner permit!

Axa seem to be the only insurer that would insure someone whose been in the country less than a year in case anyone else is interested.

Received my renewal quote from 123, was 590Euro

Told them i'd been quoted 520 from The AA and that i'd stay with them if they matched it, the girl put me on hold for maybe 10 seconds then dropped my renewal to the 520

Most of the online quotes I was getting from brokers were in the same range, starting from around 1300 Eur and upwards
Called a couple of them, over the phone they would offer quotes in the range of 1100-1200 with higher excess than Aviva and step back NCB cover only

Aaran insurance said the best they could for renewal is 1240 Euro after I gave them a ring

Depends on the policy, get an answer from them in writing (email).

i was reading the policy its says driving of other cars [policy holder only]
it says nothing about been over 25

Bank of Ireland have an offer going where if you take out their car insurance before 30th June, you'll get 25% discount.

It's underwritten by Rsa.

My renewal from 123.ie came in on €620.

Quote from boi is €440.

I've gone back to 123.ie to see if they'll match or better boi.

123.ie is also underwritten by Rsa.

In my opinion insurance is all about risk.

For example if you live in Knocknaheeny in Cork the area is very high risk compared to Foxrock in Dublin.

Border counties seem to get hit hard too.

My insurance always go up by 100 euros when I change my counties due to work place. even where you park the car matters in insurance prices. If local area has more risks then insurance goes high

You are exactly right.

Theft rates will generally be higher in urban areas.

Accidental damage rates will generally be higher in more rural areas.

Accident frequency is higher in urban areas however the severity of the accidents is lower vs the rural areas.

In simple terms there might be 10 low speed crashes in Dublin paying out €5000 each vs 2 high speed accidents in the countryside paying €30000 each.

The likes of Donegal is a particular black spot for insurance due to the fact there has been two or three multi fatality accidents over the last number of years up there.

When I started driving (1986) a figure of 25% was thrown around for Dublin vs. outside Dublin. However it was borne out when I got a quote on a 957cc Fiesta. It was £1,200 for my Dublin address but at the time I was going out with a girl from Meath and using her address the quote was £800.

thats a very good quote from liberty there quoting me 1320 on 1ltr im 20 with 2 years ncb and 2 years full irish
