The Mega Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD/R thread

Any body with either of these able to advise on what the real world economy is of these?
There is not much between them in purchase price.
The gtd 625 euro more.
I do 25000km a year and really would prefer the gti but my head tells me the gtd is what I should be looking at.
I've only driven the gti and found it very entertaining.
Dealer says resale is the same for both of them. There is only 90 euro difference in road tax and insurance the same so fuel costs are the main financial difference.

Odd, I'd have thought there'd be reasonable uptake of the 190 Passat. I'm sure my local dealers sold a couple of them. I guess the vast majority still go for the 1.6...

That's interesting; I thought the Clubsport was a limited edition 40 year anniversary keep with a run of 1,000 or so.

Clubsport starting at 44k is a significant jump from current gti starting price.

Would appear that the mark 8 is really just a facelift of mark 7 so. I wonder if they have brought its introduction forward due to falling sales as a result of diesel gate.

Especially if you have to shell out another 1.5 - 2k for the bucket seats. It'll be interesting to see how they spec it compared to the UK.

With those club sport bucket seats it looks like you lose the centre arm rest. I love that arm rest and wouldn't be without. Funny how the little things make a difference.

Those seats look so good in that video you posted the other day though. I think I could live without the armrest... in fact, with the heavy side bolstering, the armrest could be out of elbow's reach anyway.

Carbon grey is particularly nice though. A lot of R owners would have had it if it were available. VW don't really do "out there" colours...

If you look on the German website there appears to be a much bigger colour selection.

I think my carbon grey looks good in the sun to be honest, the metallic flecks sparkle. It gets a lot of second glances and when I dropped my son off at school yesterday which I normally never do his school mates were very impressed apparently. So thumbs up from 10 year old boys!

Yep, special order colours. Think they cost up to about 2k to spec :eek:

I think this may help values of second hand gti's as a new one will be even more expensive than previously there will be more distance between them.
When a new car was only 4/5 grand more than a secondhand almost every one would go new.
Now there will be more of a gap between one/two year old cars and a new clubsport.

Nope. There's no 'regular' GTi either so it's Clubsport or R.

It's surely a good thing for anyone with a relatively fresh GTI. The cheapest new one will now be R money for the foreseeable so it can only strengthen used values of 132-161 cars.

They're not doing away with it. It's now the gti clubsport.

But I would guess when the facelift/ mark 8 comes in October, the regular gti will return.

I remember seeing a couple of them over the years on the roads and actually hired one of them with a canvas roof while on honeymoon many years ago.
I think it was VW trying to show that the Germans have a sense of humour.
I wonder if the owners trading them in found it funny with what they were being offered for their cars after ...

In his review of the new Ford Focus RS, Bob Flavin reckons that the suspension in the golf R is just a little too "bouncy bouncy" in daily use.Honda civic R too stiff but Focus just right.

Any of you R boys agree?
