Hi,

First of all,many thanks to the Customer Support Staff for taking my call,processing the upgrade and order,within less than 12 hours,modem arrived and ready to plug and play !

The new router looks and feels right.Nothing fancy like my Netgear router,i don't like the colour white,as it resembles the fruity company,so the router will be hidden behind the furniture.

The interface is completely "home user",very simple to use and to navigate,completely boring for a serious IT guy.

I have disabled the WiFi interface as i want to use it purely as a router,therefore i cannot say whats the speed with the WIFi side.I guess,it depends by the location in the house and not lastly,the "quality of the signal" between end point devices.

The login page is not masking the password,it leave it in the full visibility !

It does allow modem vs router,aka bridge mode configuration,if you know what are you doing:

I cant find the settings to change the LAN interface IP address range,allows only last digit,which is kind of painful if you have a network setup already with a different IP address range:

Tested a speed,wired,full gigabyte interfaces:

There are 16 Downstream bonded channels and 4 Upstream bonded channels,running at various parameters each,probable specific to DOCSIS standard and/or based on the areas of coverage.

Lastly,main page status with version of various software/firmware and so on.

Sorry I missed the fact that you are in Czech, we can't buy them here in Ireland, they just come "free" as part of your monthly fee.

It doesn't make sense trying to use two AP's like this as it just adds a great deal of extra complexity that typically is way more trouble then it is worth.

For instance, you end up with issues of double natting and possibly the two wireless AP's wirelessly interfering with one another. All issues you can easily avoid and end up with a much better experience by simply buying a cheap AC router.

Sorry, your friend is wrong.

The best setup is to put the Compal into bridge mode and connect a good quality AC router to the Compal. Have nothing else connected to the Compal, use it as a simple modem. Instead use the AC routers DHCP server and have all devices connected to the AC's routers wifi or wired ports.

This avoid issues with double nat, wireless interference between the two wireless APs and ensures that all your devices are on the same network.

If you don't have the money to buy one of these, then I'd recommend simply using the Compal and not bothering with using a separate N router in bridge mode. I'm honestly not sure you will get better performance from using your N router then you would get from simply sticking to the Compal. Not unless you are doing DyDNS or some other advanced feature like that.

Because you can get better wifi using your own router.

Historically they don't fix the issues their routers. You can only get this half decent router on the top package. Everyone else has the old routers.

I can't agree with you. They can improve their firmware. That's I want - giving them hints. Couldn't I? It's not open-source and even we can't give it there OpenWRT,DD-WRT,etc. And also another member of this forum said:

We have also this on Cisco EPC3208/EPC3925 and Technicolor TC7200 (even this modem have more opinions than Compal). Why you won't use wireless, when the device have it? It doesn't make sense for me.

Because the firmware what we have is very primitive or should i say useless?

The Compal firmware is perfectly fine for the vast majority of their customers, which is what an ISP supplied router is meant to be, simple and just works.

At least now they offer pure bridging mode for more advanced users, which is really what most advanced users want, basically turn the ISP supplied router into a dumb modem so that they can use all the more power user features on their own router.

Frankly what you are looking for just doesn't make any sense for them to enable. Just go buy an AC router on amazon for €50 and be done with it.

That's a different bridge mode.

The bridge mode on the Virgin router is WAN bridging, which disables all routing and turns it into a basic modem.

I don't see why you'd want to use the WiFi in bridge mode. It's very dangerous to have a client device directly connected to the internet without proper safeguards in place.

I don't think it's expected, because configure wifi and also modify Guest network are gray (not available), but tool for network diagnostics is blue

Hey guys, currently using the Compal 360mb modem instead of my Asus nt66u and through a Netgear Ac1200 usb hooked up to my desktop I was originally getting 200mb on speedtest via 5ghz for the last few weeks consistently. Suddenly since last week though the speed has dipped down to 60 mb max now whenever I test it now and I am not sure what could be the cause of it. My desktop is currently up in the attic but signal strength is strong.

In Czech republic we have same problem and they think that it was only my temporary failure and i told them that also others customers point it out on their FB page.

What I miss on Compal firmware:
- They didn't support Jumbo frames (MTU is limited to 1500)
- In Bridge mode you can't use Compal's wifi or even just put WiFi's to bridge mode
- In Administration, while it is in bridge mode you can use tool for network diagnostics, but its not working. See this: ctrlv.cz/shots/2016/05/26/ZvMO.png

Technically DHCP is on, its just working in a public ip space. Rest is identical.

100.x is convention for bridged IP(or one of the RFCs).

You'll have a small bottleneck, nothing I'd be worried about. Wireless performance will be lower than a comparable .11AC unit though.

Routing throughput running the latest V1.0.0.19-DNS firmware and our router test process measured 335 Mbps WAN to LAN, 363 Mbps LAN to WAN and 398 Mbps total with up and down tests running simultaneously.

My question is, if I bridge the new 360 router to modem only, will my old WNDR3800 be any use? I am not sure if it will be able to handle the speed.

Wifi in the compal is dual band, supports AC and isnt nerfed by the lack of antennas. If you want better wifi that part is a no brainer.

Having inconsistent performance from the new modem as well.

Also find that none of my devices with iplayer radio will connect at home. Fine in work or with a VPN enabled, but with a straight connection to the router it just does not connect. It's happening on multiple devices so it is not a setting.

Really strange.
