Didn't get who he was referring to there. Anyone know who that was and also what it was that the guy said?

If McGregor wanted good stand up prep for Diaz then Antonio Margarito would be a proper shout Hes definately the boxing equivalent of Nate Diaz, tall, keeps coming forward, great chin and accumulation puncher. Hopefully leaves the plaster of paris at home though

The guy has a superb resume like it or not.
Conor stepping up to fight nate diaz is not akin to Mayweather stepping up to fight GGG. Its more akin to Floyd stepping up to middleweight to fight the likes of Billy Joe Saunders or Matthew Macklin in all honesty. Diaz isn't even a top lightweight never mind welterweight.
price690 wrote: » Mayweather for all of his detractors can barely pack on enough pounds to hit 150lbs even when fighting at light middleweight?
And hes ducking a guy who will more than likely end up fighting super middleweights and light heavyweights in time? He will fight Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev somewhere down the line. Is McGregor ducking Robbie Lawlor? He probably would give it a crack in fairness to him but if he didn't fancy it would you consider that ducking him?
Mellor wrote: » His walk around weight was pretty close to the 170 lbs limits. Nate's wasn't. Those are elite fighters of course. But they make up less than half of his 30 title fights. I also never said he hasn't fought elite guys . I was referencing the fact that he is extremely particular about the conditions of the fight. Even down to dictating the brands of gloves that Maidana was allowed to wear. Look how lone Pac-Man terms took to agree. I'm aware that Diaz isn't at the top of the pile in the same way GGG is. But 145 to 170 is twice the jump that Mayweather would be making to face GGG at middleweight. An equivalent jump for Mayweather would be to face George Groves, or Andre Ward, at 172 (halfway between supermiddle and lightheavy). Which would never happen. Not even against a journey man. To be clear, I'm just illustrating how they are two fighters in two differnet sports. Their records are comparable. He may have struggle in the past (De La Hoya fight). But not any more. He got a TUE for an IV drip after his 147lb fight with Pacquio. He was definitely >150 in that fight. As above, you are comparing different weight jumps. McGregor jumping to fight Lawor would be close to Mayweather fighting Sergey Kovalev. Mayweather to GGG, is about the same as the UFC featherweight champ jumping up to face the lightweight champ, RDA. Which was the plan. As much as I'd love to see it, I'm not suggesting that Mayweather is ducking GGG. This is just another example of the differences between the two sports. And the records they produce.

I get that Ariel has been left out in the cold by Fox, but jezzzus at least rebuff some of Nate's points or challenge him on some of his statements. Far too much fawning over his guest for my liking. A good interviewer shouldn't be afraid to do this.

Nate and he are hard pressed to agree terms with UFC (there isn't enough pie to go around for all the egos involved) and the whole thing seemed stalled. He is messing around with Mayweather rumours (which will never ever come to pass imho). He has had a horrific cut to 145 before and now seems to want to fight at higher weights to avoid that cut plus who knows if he can even make the cut now that he is training for a 170 fight! Fat and water can be cut, muscle is harder! If Conor wins against Nate he's not going to go straight back to 145 and defend against Edgar\Aldo imho... I think he will say "feck it, let them have it" and demand a shot at the 155 strap. If he loses God knows what happens. Maybe he gets some humility and stops this messing about or maybe he walks away from the sport. On one hand he says he needs to get away from the media spotlight and get his head straight and his training on track, on the other hand he's messing with this Mayweather nonsense.
DeVore wrote: » The thing is that McGregor vs the 145'ers is at a big advantage. He can muscle them around in the clinch/grapple. He doesn't have to worry too much about their knock out power (theres not much there) and he has the bigger reach, always. At 155, he might be in danger of being... well, average.... :^/ I think he should have stayed at 145 and defended his title, this business with Diaz is a silly distraction and Mayweather is simply cuckoo land. I want to see McGregor back at 145, beating everyone there and sitting on his throne. But I don't think that's his plan...

He needs some genuine wars to show he has the heart of a champion, that is how fighters are made. It's all well and good blowing 145ers out of the water with his power but that doesn't exactly translate well to fighting people his own weight or heavier as we have seen with Diaz. He has all the tools to be a top 5 155er, even a champion if he can improve certain aspects. If he continued cutting to 145 that could eventually kill him.
