Went to make a booking for next Saturday and the girl on the phone says, "that's June 4th".
No, next Saturday is the 28th says I.
Saturday 4th is Saturday week.

She maintained sat week is the 4th June .
So, when is next sat. May 28th or June 4th?

Agree, have had arguments about this in the last. This Saturday is also known as Saturday coming, it's the Saturday of this week. The 28th. Next Saturday is the Saturday that happens next week. That's the 4th. I would also call that "Saturday week". The following Saturday would be "Saturday fortnight". Saturday gone would be "last Saturday".

This Saturday is shortened down from "this Saturday coming" ie the first Saturday after today.

Next Saturday is shortened from "the next Saturday". ie the first Saturday after today. Which is the same meaning as "this Saturday".

"Saturday week" is two Saturdays from Today.

Saturday last means the last Saturday.

But ask the the O/H and it will be a different answer. Over the years they have learned to know what I mean and vice versa.

Saturday the 24th of June is Saturday week.

Personally I would call Saturday the 28th of May "This Saturday"...

The accepted definition is simple:

This Saturday is the Saturday of this week.

Next Saturday is the Saturday of next week.

People do make mistakes with it though, so it's always good to check what people mean, especially in cases where a day this week is still somewhat far away.
For example, if someone told me on a Monday that they'd meet me "next Sunday," I'd double check what exactly they meant, as "this Sunday" could seem far enough away in their head for them to say, accidentally or otherwise, "next Sunday" instead of "this Sunday."

This is why I try not to use 'next'. Easier to go this (coming) Saturday the 28th or Saturday week, the 4th.

That's very understandably confusing though. The accepted American convention is that 12am is midnight, but 12am and 12pm are used so infrequently in everyday speech and writing that it's irresponsible to use it for an important deadline.

That doesn't in any way respond to what I said, but regardless, you can use it like that if you wish but people will not understand you.

If you say to someone on Thursday "I'll meet you at 9pm next Saturday," they won't be there when you are.
