I'd imagine you have been with Aviva for only 2 years?

An insurer will only verify the time you have been with them, even though you are getting the full benefit of having the max bonus.

For example, if you move to another insurer this year, at next renewal your bonus will say 1 year but the point on the NCB scale will be 50%/55%, depending on what way they sell their NCB levels.

So that's over 20% increase. I don't understand. Insurance premiums used to go down slightly each year. Why all of sudden are they increasing 20%, 50%, sometimes 100% compared with last year? Is this just happening in Ireland? What's going on?

Ours was much the same iirc we had a 30% increase on the renewals from a fairly low quote and couldn't get anything else that was less than a 50% increase so went with the renewal quote.

EDIT> Reading this thread helped to make up my mind to go with the renewal quotes when it became obvious that everyone else was in the same boat.

Hi folks,

My premium on a 2007 407 coupe has increased from €405 last year to €610 this year, a 50% increase. Is this what other people are experiencing? I have tried to get a cheaper quote elsewhere but everything is coming in dearer.

I'm 30, 12 years NCB and no penalty points. Seems like a savage increase.

Anyone any suggestions for a more competitive quote.

I've tried

- Aviva (current insurer) as a new customer - €610 (renewal was €690)
- Chill.ie - €800
- FBD - €750
- Allianz - €750 when options added in
- Liberty - €1000!

Aside from the standard industry increases of between 20% and 30% it's now 12 years old.

Cars have for a long time attracted an age of vehicle load once they hit 12 years of age.

Plus the car type is not one that a lot of insurers would have on their wish list as attractive risk.

I used the CD on my computer. Found it pretty straightforward but I did have to revise. Most of the questions are common sense with a few tricky ones thrown I'm for good measure.

I'd recommend sticking with the CD since its identical to the theory exam.

Its ridiculous money, its all a money racket with these companies. Did you think the Theory test was easy? I've been using the app more to practice it and it's been a piece of cake but when I use the CD on my laptop I seem to struggle with them and fail more times than I pass it, also been using GoDotDrive it's a study site to help you with the theory, what did you use the most to study before you took your test?

I've been on Chill.ie , prices 3,000+ .. Little to no difference for a 1.0, 1.2 and a 1.4 to be honest, 200-400 euro only

No, I'm pretty sure that you have the right to cancel within 14 days of the offer being accepted by you, or when the cover starts (whichever is earliest)

I haven't seen it here on my hunt for quotes only seen it in UK with Swiftcover offering 12.5% discount and that's for Nextbase cams as far as I can see. I'm paid up for this year but I'd like to see it next year. No doubt there'll be a stipulation that it has to be professionally fitted by a vegetarian electrical engineer from Wexford over 35. :rolleyes: More here

P.S. I think and hope it'll make news here if it happens and you'll not doubt see it on here.

Got a quote from BOI 3 weeks ago on a 13yr old Passat.
Prestige policy, fully comp with the extra NCD protection option for €510 .
(I am a BOI customer)

I went with the quote straight away even though I had a month to sort out something.

Just put in the same details just now for the craic & its gone up by €80.

I was with 25plus last year for €515 and my renewal this year would have been €660.
Everyone else would have been €900 and up.

A big thanks to everyone posting about BOI in this thread btw.
