Do you use Windows Mac Linux Chrome OS or other device

I gave up using PCs years ago the last one I had was using Widows Vista.
I got fed up virus scans and disk defragmentation.
I use Mac so I have never used Windows 8 or 10.
On my last Mac I had Windows 7 installed on a disc partition but I deleted it because whenever I used it loads of updates were waiting.
Not an Apple fan as such I will only use a Samsung or HTC phone.

For me I use the computer for watching movies and playing music a bit of Youtube some message boards and email that is it.

So my question is what kind of device are you using to post on boards and how hassle free an experience does it provide?

Is Windows 10 a pain free experience these days?
Are the days of nasty porn filled pop ups gone?

I use windows 10/ Ubuntu dual boot on my PC and Laptop. I use Windows for gaming/microsoft office/etc and I use Ubuntu for development. I sometimes use different distros of Linux at times but mostly Ubuntu. I never had any real problems with Windows 10 to be honest, porn pop up? Wasn't that some guy who had porn pics stored and they showed up on his live tiles :P I mean windows 10 isn't perfect but I never found it any worse than any previous Windows versions.

I use Chrome os on my Chromebook :pac: I use my chromebook when i am just relaxing on the couch to watch youtube, browse boards, facebook etc. The Chromebook is awesome for just relaxing, weights about a pound and start up of like a second or something.

The os on my phone is android 6.0

These days for the vast majority I think specs are irrelevant.
I ran Ubuntu for a while also but there is a reason it is free.

Used Windows, then OSX for two years, then Mint for about three before going back to Windows for a specific piece of software I needed to use often.

Actually really like Windows 7 and 10 is ok. Even for web dev, I don't feel like I'm missing out.
And I drop into rocket league or halo for a game or two every so often to clear the head so it's easier to be on Windows.

Windows, Linux (a few flavors) and OS X.

My Macbook is my leisurely device. I bought it thinking I could use it for my media work. Editing videos, images, working on my site etc. I also figured with cloud computing and virtualization it's worth knowing OS X. It hasn't really turned out that way. I pretty much only use it for browsing the web...so it's a bit of a waste but the hardware is so S3XY!

Linux. I have Ubuntu on a VM just for testing certain things. I also have CentOS and other Linux flavors running as appliances on my server. I also setup my home VPN using OpenVPN on my Raspberry Pi which is running Linux. I've thought about trying to make Ubuntu my day to day OS but I just can't do it. Technology wise, ideology wise Linux is pretty great but the UX is pretty awful.

I'm running a bunch of Windows servers, Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines. I'm proficient with Windows. Also, since Windows 7 and the advent of 64-bit using and maintaining Windows has become much easier. I have unfortunately had more issues migrating from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, Mavericks to Yosemite, Yosemite to El Capitan than I have moving from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Windows has got much better....hopefully Microsoft's ideology and attitude continues to change. It's been looking better with the latest CEO.

Main computer is Windows 10 and work computer is windows 10 but I've multiple other computers running various linux distros for various different tasks.

I've rarely used OSX simply because I've rarely had a need to.

Sadly I've had to downgrade to a smaller, more portable box but I've still got a full-fat graphics card in there with SSD and HDD plus some other small bits and bobs.

I use Windows for work pc and home pc, and Android for phone / tablet.
I've used windows for years and never had the problem of constant anti virus or disk defragging you mention. But I barely install any stuff from the internet anymore. I have my 20 or so programs that I need. Once they're on, the pc stays constant.
Updates are annoying but that's for 5 mins a month.

Win 10 on desktop and laptop, Android on my phone. Tried a few different versions of Linux but it just seems a bit pointless really, doesn't do anything that windows doesn't do already.

Never used OSX because I have no interest in Apples overpriced fashion accessories.

Apple OS releases have steadily gone downhill since 10.6 Snow Leopard IMH. One of my machines is the last Macbook(i7 8 gigs ram) that could run Snow Leopard and I still have it on a partition. When I compare it to the latest El Capitan the six year old OS, loads faster, wakes from sleep faster, runs more smoothly and crashes and hangs on a spinning ball of doom far less. The GUI makes more sense too. EG after Snow Leopard by default scroll bars only show when a window is active/moving. Like on a phone. Don't me get started on the default trackpad direction of action. Again "eeee it's like a phone". Fcuk off. The latest OS' have some extra bells and whistles, but the old OS is by far the superior and measurably so. They remind me of the recent Boards makeover; "We've been listening to the wrong people so here's our new crapper product, but it is new and more mobile friendly, cos that's the future you know"…

Their hardware has also dropped in quality IMH. At best it has stayed stagnant. Johnny Ive's rightful place in the design pantheon is assured, now fcuk off and retire. Your one trick pony is eyeing the glue factory. It's over, you're tired. Get off the stage. Compare their genuine innovation in design and hard/software from 1998-2008 that blew the doors off any other IT company(Doze and Ux heads will melt at that, but it's a demonstrable fact. Sorry), then contrast that with their output from 2008 to today. Yep. The only difference between any of their range today and the same range 8 years ago is in the thickness of the casings. Never mind the quality, feel the (lack of) width. The only innovative design they've come up with recently has been the Apple watch. Victims of their success, and hubris and Jobs' demise.

I'd agree with W, I find Windows has gotten better with time and they're innovating more with it. I find it far less clunky that I found the last release and every release is an overall step forward.

Linux is great for certain applications, brilliant for old "obsolete" machinery and I love that it exists, but it's a level of nerd I don't like to descend to too often.

On the mobile devices? Apple. I find Android extremely clunky and when it's not being clunky it's extremely and blatantly derivative of the Apple iOS. The latter is by far the superior OS on phones. Though again MS' efforts are bloody good. I've been very impressed with their phone OS. Very slick and TBH I prefer the design over the Apple one. And MS proved you can make a brand new OS that's at least on a par with every one else without the wholesale theft of a competitors ideas. I don't like Google anyway, I don't like their work practices, I don't like their ethos and avoid using their products as much as possible.

Windows 10 on all my devices, I don't get all the hate for it from people who complain about telemetry, yet plaster everything about themselves up on Facebook, complaining about the telemetry!!

I'd dual boot and dabble in Linux only the odd time, just handy to know what's going on in the community and see how it's coming along. There are a couple of Irish distros too from Irish developers which is great to see, but I just have no practical use for it.

OSX, I know how to get my way around it, but I have an irrational discomfort with it, again useful to know about it, but no practical use for it.

Windows 7, updates disabled - no ****ty virusguard - just the microsoft security essentials which is synced with windows.

Also really carefull what I download and view on my machine.

Never had any problems yet.

I've two computers. The main one I use runs Windows 10 and I've not had any problems with it.

My other one is an underpowered laptop that a friend gave me when he was moving abroad. I took Windows off that because it was desperately slow and put Linux on instead. It has definitely made it work a lot more smoothly and it's grand for basic tasks such as Internet, email etc. I'd hate to start trying to add peripherals to it though. Getting the laptop to work wirelessly was quite a headache.

Windows and Android, though the latter tends to piss me off on a regular basis. Apple iOS used to drive me silly too but that was because I used to fix them and had to deal with particular monotonous problems with the software and the phones themselves.

Windows 7 on pretty much all the machines at the moment, in the middle of working on some projects so upgrading is on the hold for the moment. Will move up to 10 when I get the chance.
