I know that opinion on the mkiii is that it's under rated and pretty reliable. What about these late mk2 units?

It a MKII laguna the worst car Renault built.
Early to late models only when through a small cosmetic change . The issues where not addressed with a slightly different headlight and small plastic grill change.

You have to go much newer MKIII to see the quality and reliability change

01-05 Lagunas were not a god car. Post 05 facelifted cars were vastly improved. They didntnjust change The lights :-)

I would disagree and suggest that the MkII Scenic is the worst car I have ever driven, more faults and issues, from blacked out displays to multiple broken regulators, sticking automatic handbrakes, you name it that car broke it.

In contrast my MKI Focus estate 1.6 just won't die, though the speedo needs a new sensor.

At that age, I'd be more concerned about condition than mileage, especially on an Avensis. There's a couple of hundred euro tax on it too. I don't think that's too far off the mark if its clean enough in the metal.

The one above has about 400 worth of tax on it and test till 2017 as I said it'd want a haggle down from 1k but tis far from overpriced.

It looks like a nice example. It only has NCT until the end of July though, but if you could get it for a grand I think it would be a reasonable buy. After the NCT though I'd budget a few quid for different alloys!
