Wedding meal venues

Hi all,

We are getting married in September and will have 16 people in total (including ourselves). We are looking for a venue in Dublin where we can have a private meal and are not interested in having a reception afterwards.

Any suggestions would be welcome

so really you just want a restaraunt with a private room?

Whats your budget? chapter one has a private room.

Exactly. We'd really like to squeeze a menu and wine into a budget of €50-60 per person.

Humm, Chapter one is a great option but probably wouldnt work on that budget, if its to include wine.

Odessa has a separate room. But for 16 people, you would probably be able to reserve a decent section of a restaurant anyway.

Just google "private dining Dublin" and you'll get pretty much the full list of options. Are you going for lunch or dinner?

We went to Guilbaud's for lunch and it was €45 per person excluding wine and tip. The wine and tip would push it over your budget but by less then you might think. Chapter 1 have a three course set lunch menu for E40. Our original plan was dinner, but with our ceremony in the morning that resulted in too much hanging around until restaurants started serving at about 6pm. Lunch worked beautifully but may not suit you.

Forest avenue, pigs ear, l'ecrivain, dobbins, chapter 1 were all on our list too.

Interesting! We thought we had a venue sorted but they've thrown a hefty room hire charge on top of the head price so I don't see why we can't push the boat out a little and maybe got for Gilbauds. How did you enjoy your day there?!

I loved it. There were 12 of us, I think 16 might be a better number for the room. Their room is gorgeous and there's no rush to leave. The food was delicious and there were lots of little extra bits between courses. They had no problem with us bringing in our own cake either. Looks like their lunch menu is E55 now.

In fairness what really swung it for me was that their last sitting time as 2.15pm and they were so close to the registry office which allowed us to get some pics post ceremony and still comfortably make lunch.

If that is a stretch too far, I've eaten in the pigs ear a few times and it's been fantastic every time. More relaxed then Guilbaud's. I think you're group is too big for their top floor room, but I'm pretty sure they can give you a middle floor or something instead.

Ah...we're getting married in Wicklow so not sure we'd make it back in time for Gilbauds without a rush. I've got on to Pigs Ear as well, many thanks for the suggestions!

Any idea on what Trinity City hotel would be like? They have offered us a private dining room for dinner, and it would be ours for the evening

Is that the place beside what used to be Fireworks? (showing my age)

I only know it from driving by and I tend to keep an ear to the ground on the foodie scene in Dublin. My guess is that its probably a standard hotel, so while I'm sure the food is probably fine, it's unlikely to be special.

Again, I'd consider myself quite a foodie so somewhere known for its food would be top of my list, so its not somewhere I'd chose but not everyone would have the same criteria as me.

Fire @ the mansion house have private dining rooms. The food is very nice.

Have you thought about having the meal in Wicklow if you're pushed for time?

Druids Glen offers private dining also and isn't far from Dublin.

Gilbaud's is closing for refurbishment at the end of August so that's that!

We're going to see the private room in Dobbins this evening...thank you!

Thanks to everyone so far - that's the meal booked, Dobbins it is!

Now - we're looking for somewhere we can go for drinks after dinner where we can meet up with friends and colleagues...we'd probably need to book an area as it's a Friday night. Any suggestions are welcome!
