After talking with 4 agents over the phone over 30 min about why my insurance had gone up 67% with an additional year of claim/point free driving, I politely told them that I will never use them again, nor will my family.

Was getting crazy quote and got rejected by 2 insurance companies. Couldnt figure out what was going on so, called axa to see what the story was only to discover they said I had a substantial claim last year which was not true:mad: After chasing paperwork ect. My 5years ncb was reinstated.

Last year her policy was around €750 with Chill/AIG. I was a named driver and at the time had a provisional licence..... I now have a full Irish one. She was getting insane quotes up to €1900, some places such as FBD refused to even quote. In the end chill cane down from over €1000+ for a renewal to around €870.

However the agent on the phone asked whether I was employed.... and having been made redundant last month I'm not. As a result of that they charged an extra €112.... even though she uses the car for commuting to work so it'd not like I'd be out in it every day.

What's their justification for that? I'm assuming it's legal bit it seems terribly unfair and discriminatory.

Statistically speaking people that are unemployed are more likely to claim.

Its unfair her policy being loades given you are only a named driver though.

got a low enough quote with them, still not the cheapest, but when i rang to see what the deal was it went up by 300euro.

my insurance is up soon and ive been getting ridiculous quotes online. my insurance last year was about 500ish (cant remember exactly). been quoted 1300 online. now i know there is an expected increase, but it seems too much. i will ring around when my broker sends me the letter with their offer for this year.

Quotes online now are close to €2000 but I reckon I'd get away with €1800~ on a bare minimum policy with an excess close to a grand :eek: Funny that I was most dangerous on the road with my cheapest policy, driving like a mongrel at times.

I started driving in 2000 as an 18yo in a 1.4 and had not choice to but pay IR£3,885.85 which the CSO tells me is the inflated equivalent of €6,509. The only other quote I could get was almost double.
