F*cking cold sores

I have my third one in six months. I can't leave it alone either, constantly picking at the crust and then bleeding profusely.

Anyone else suffer from "de huuurpes"?

I cancelled all my plans for the weekend because I can't be arsed trying to disguise the f*cker.

I'd love to know where I picked it up. I had one in October when I was in Amsterdam and it left a mark on my face :eek:

I don't freak out when I see someone else with one but when I have one I just want to hide away.

I think mine are brought on by stress.

I had one at a wedding once and in every photo I'm in I have a strategic prop hiding my poor lip but sadly that just made me look like a gowl.

This scientific research review on lysine supplementation in cats (for feline herpesvirus) also reviews lysine supplementation in humans (for human herpesvirus) and finds no support that it works in either species (although it is not potentially harmful in humans the way it is potentially harmful in cats). Bummer.

Lysine supplementation may work for other viruses; I have found it useful for warding off colds and recovery from flu (in conjunction with a responsible and timely flu shot).

Crushed aspirin directly on the area is meant to work for some people.

I had two cold sores that broke out at the same time, they were huge, I ended up seeing the funny side because the size of them was ridiculous I remember going into shops and could just see the person on the counter just starring at them prob thinking WTF is on her lip??? The 2nd last one I ever had lasted two weeks so when I got one after that I went straight to the doctor and went on a course of zorivax tablets haven't had one since...

I've been exposed to the herpes virus as a couple of exes got the odd outbreak(no doubt they'd now refer to me as an odd outbreak too) and when the blood was up, or down, that wouldn't put me off, but never had one myself. Most people would have been exposed I'd imagine? Some seem to have more immunity. Never had warts either. A bloke I knew years back used to get them very bad. His whole family did actually, though at least in the circles I moved in it seemed to be much more something women got?

Could have got it off your parents when u were young, I got the virus from my Dad.

They are the most painful, disgusting ugly yokes you can be afflicted with. I HATE the ****ers and I hate whoever kissed me as a child with one and gave me the damn virus.

Mine are generally hormonally triggered (ovulation, periods) or by the sun. I think I've only had one small one this year because my immune system is up and I'm not run down.

Don't pick them, and don't burst the blisters. It will just take the skin twice as long to heal and you will be at risk of spreading the damn things.

I find neurofen good if the pain is especially bad.

They are an effing scourge.

Basically blinded me in the left eye. Took about 10 years for it to heal sufficiently to be able to see out of.

Worst thing about coldsores is isolating myself from the family

had a very heartbreaking experience with my affectionate daughter when she was 2 who got very upset when daddy wouldn't give her a hug or a kiss. But the main thing is, no contaminating from me!

Vicks rub is quite effective. The active ingredient is the camphor in it. If you can get some spirit of camphor it will kill them in a couple of days.

As soon as I feel the tingle I start putting hydrogen peroxide on it. Bubbles like crazy and stings a little but kills the infection quicker however still get left with a scab..

I get cold sores very regularly. I don't know why, I eat well, exercise regularly. I have had blood tests done and everything is as it should be. If I'm near someone who has one I generally will get one the following day. I have recently tried the coldsore cream on a website called simplessential.com and it's fantastic, put it on as soon as you feel the tingle and it won't "errupt" fully and it really helps with the pain too. It's all natural ingredients too which is a bonus.

I've gotten them a lot recently, it must be the crazy weather. I get them for all sorts of reasons, but mostly when I'm sick or stressed. If there's an illness going around, I usually don't get it but I get the coldsore to tell me I've been infected. I'd rather the illness to be honest. The last one I missed with the cream so got the full brunt of it. It just popped up overnight, without enough stinging to wake me like they usually do. They are horrible. It makes eating difficult, smiling difficult, and it makes people stare at you.

I've found freezing the bejaysus out of it when they first get red to help a huge amount. I've stopped coldsores from popping up further than the red/tingle stage by doing this. I put ice or better is a freezing bag of meat or something directly onto it until you definitely can't feel it. Then I put coldsore cream on. When that gets absorbed, I freeze it again, put more cream on and repeat as often as possible. You probably don't need to do it too often but if I have time, I tend to go a bit overboard with the whole "die motherfcuker!" thing on it.

Was getting them since I was a kid - one or two a year and christ they are whoppers when they arrive

A doc told me it could be weather triggered - even a small bit of sun after cold spell can trigger it in some folks apparently , told me the key is to keep lip moist and best way is to use some sort of lip balm when any sort of weather change to bit of sun is occurring

Followed the advice and longest run ever without one.

Obviously different remedies work for everyone but that might be worth a shot for people who suffer badly

My dad actually transmitted the virus from his mouth into his eye years ago, touched his cold sore didn't wash his hands and rubbed his eye, he went blind in that eye and has flare ups in the eye every so often, it's terrible.

I have been getting cold sores for 25 years, tried everything: zovirax, patches, perfume, acetone- you get desperate when you have a chernobyl on your lip every 2nd week. Started L-lysine 2 years ago, i take 4-5 tablets per day when i feel a tingle, most of the time it stops a sore developing at all, or if i'm late starting the dosing, it greatly reduces the sore to a small pimple size. I'm never without a bottle now.

I never be in Boots,I'd say they have it.I get it in most Chemists or in Health shops where they sell supplements. Expensive stuff, around 10-13 euros for a bottle of 50 tablets, which I could use in a few weeks if i have a two attacks. Worth it though.

For the longer term op, cold sores are normally a suggestion that you may be ran down or it could be something in your diet. Are you under any stress perhaps or are you sleeping OK?
