Red Button

I have a triax tsc114 combi box and the red button doesn't seem to offer this. Is it only available on certain boxes.
I also have an amiko min combi in another room. Maybe it will offer red button services?

Be interesting to see what Saorview Connect offers. Perhaps the possibility to watch different GAA matches or Euro/WC matches on at the same time.

The TG4 red button isn't always live. Try again at match time.

I tried it when available previously and it didn't work. I have also tried it with the BBC and no joy unless I have to set something up first in settings or something.
My Triax box has a zoom function when you press the red button.

The triax 114 should work with RTE digital aertel service and BBC Red button service on terrestrial.
So on terrestrial TG4 Red button should work when available.

However it WON'T work with RTE digital aertel service and BBC red button service on Saorsat or 28E, Satellite.

Red button function may not be supported on your STB.
Previous TG4 red button stream was on mux1 pid 25.
Manually edit settings to view.
Or manually tune in after red button stream commences.

Where do you manually edit settings? Will I then be able to use the red button.

It would be great to be able to use the BBC red button for the olympics on freesat.

If STB is Saorview approved red button function should work.
If STB is saorview approved & red button doesn't work you should inform saorview & consult STB user manual for manual tuning method.

Red button does not work for bbc on the triax 114 as the bbc keep changing the frequency used for the interactive channels, they can be tuned in however as a channel and can be viewed by simply going to that channel no when an event is being broadcast such as the Olympic games coming up.

It worked on the saorview approved Walker combo

Also works on the Saorsat approved Walker 95sat.

Hopefully this will be part of the requirements for the new Saorview Connect

Cheers and would that require a full rescan or could you just rescan one channel, e.g. BBC 1 HD and all the other red button channels would appear?

I just think that the triax 114 just didn't have the software in satellite mode.

It was listed as approved for saorsat, but was never fully compatible with the Saorsat service.
It never had the RTE aertel, nor the correct RTE screen savers on RTE Radio channels.

But all of the above work in terrestrial mode.

Triax tsc114 red button option didn't work on TG4 even though the box is saorview approved.

The current Red Button channel feed can be tuned in as a separate channel on 10773 H 22000 5/6 QPSK named BBC RB1.

During special events such as the Olympics they add several more temporary feeds. Rumour has it they will be on
12422 H 23000 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK

Any idea Gerry why the red button wouldn't work on the saorview approved triax. Is it a software issue or what?

Indeed. The Red Button Services frequency above will become active on the first week of June. Its for the European Championships.

the BBC RB1 service will be on the same frequency as usual. 6811 will be a HD variant of it.

If the transponder already exists for these is there any need to rescan for them?
Where would they appear in the channel list - beside other bbc channels?

The transponder doesn't exist.

Even if it did you would have to rescan that transponder if using any generic satellite box.

Only Freesat branded products do not require re-scanning as they have built in software that does this. The same with the red button services you are asking about for the BBC - only Freesat branded products have the red button service. Saorview approved means the terrestrial end.

Your post above about TG4 - what Red button service are you talking about ? Tg4 does not have a red button service that I know of.

But I thought the red button could be used. Pain to have to be scanning in channels. Nothing can be done for the freesat but a saorview approved box should.

I have contacted saorview about it so wait and see.

Steveon is right. Someone hard coded the red button to the home mheg controlled interactive screen which gave you access to the streams via 3001 etc.

Then Freesat changed the frequencies for the RB services and no one updated those links in the software as noone is updating the software. It was unofficial anyhow and never part of the spec.

They'll change again at the start of June with a shed load of red button channels for the euros.

For the Euros? Why would they need a shed load of red button services for that? Only simultaneous kick offs are last games of group stages. I know in the past we had multiple camera angles and that, but even Sky don't bother with that any more.

Even for the Olympics I understand that the red button services they intend to offer won't be a patch on what they offered in 2012.

Am I right in thinking that a box that is Mheg5 capable is then capable of red button interactive services.

MHEG5 is part of the triax box. I noticed that you can get Aertel services on rte2 but not rte1 for some strange reason.

Shed load will be 7 screens. Live content, Highlights and clips, Latest Headlines and Fixtures Scores and results.
Euro's start 10th June
Wimbledon 27th June
Rio Olympics 5th August

Presume some will be used for the music festivals as well. They will be running them on a new TP 10422. I'm sure closer to the date they will publicise it more at their blog

MHEG is the engine used to display it in an organised manner, in a frame, that way you can use the arrows to pick a sports stream off a multiscreen. But you dont need that homescreen, as all of the streams are broadcast in the open and require a scan of a transponder, and will have channel names like 6111, 6112.

The Triax having MHEG5 alone is not enough to display the multiscreen. The Red Button would have to be mapped to pick up this data and if the frequency is wrong (it is now) it requires someone to issue a firmware update. Thats not going to happen.
