It's less and less like a discussion forum Boards is becoming tbh. I don't know what this latest effort is about or who it's aimed at.

If they leave it the same then maybe you don't need developers. If Boards do a "g mail" & make it compulsory then it will show their total disregard for the people that make this site so amazing.

I have serious levels of respect and admiration for the folks who worked on this. That should really go without saying. Something like Reddit is almost late 90's geek in layout(some like that of course. Then again some of the odder nerds out there miss DOS…). Indeed, with tweaks (more than a few tweaks to the front end IMH) this could actually be a little money spinner for Boards. Vbulletin is brilliant, but a choice for forums out there is always a good thing.Again the level of work and the result considering the size of the team involved is bloody amazing. That is not the issue. It all goes a bit Pete Tong at the front end. It's like a halfway house between desk and mobile. There's not that much in it, but it does need tweaking. If it Boards were a car; the old layout had bad shocks, the engine was smoky as fcuk with little power, but the outside looked pretty good and the dashboard had all the buttons where you expected them and within reach. The topics tweak made the user have to dig around to find the windscreen wipers. This new Beta? Fantastic engine, great suspension and chassis, but the body is more style than substance and the dashboard is a bloody mess. Really obvious shizzle like the asterix beside new posts on subbed forums. How did that get missed? Or maybe I've a borked version? EDIT I don't have adblock running. Yeah, that was a bit odd alright. When users, the content generators within the community, start to drift away there is a tipping point beyond which recovery is almost impossible. Such stresses are often little things. The Close account option, though legally required because of stupid Irish law, was a little one. It made your account, you, less "valuable"*. The category change another which made navigation a little more longwinded and I've seen a few forums wither since that came in. Forget readers and lurkers at your peril. Things like the Hack and the recent ddos attack are bigger stressors. This Beta may be one of them. I sadly suspect it will. I did think the mobile users would care less(I'm old, so desktop to the end ), but they seem to have issues too. I dunno, we'll see in a year.* It also increased the tantrum flounce off types who barely let their keyboards go cold before they've a new account, posting the same stuff. Rinse and repeat.
