Ticket scam on adverts.ie

Long story cut short: got 2 tickets on adverts.ie. They're hard copies, paid via PayPal. Tickets were delivered shortly after. This had been 2 weeks before the gigs. Turn up at the gate on the evening to learn: the tickets won't scan, to box office, they were reported lost in post and cancelled.
The lad has never told me I'd have problems. So far I've contacted the person, (no answer, even I was blocked by him so it means it's scam in big capitals), adverts.ie and PayPal(opened dispute of unauthorised transaction). Is there anything else I can do? Quite in panic and anger, a great night ruined by this scum! :-(

That is a well known scam how they go missing and gets cancelled and you think you have genuine tickets. God knows how many times he "lost" them and did the same thing to someone else. Though i wonder would ticketmaster cop on if its the second or third time?

If the tickets were bought online or on phone and used a card, they can ring up with their reference number and get them cancelled and get new tickets sent out.

What you're looking for are tickets paid in cash, it should say on the little stub what method was used. Tickets paid for in cash, can't be cancelled.

If PayPal doesn't accept the unauthorized transaction, i was in the same position as you before and i did authorise the transaction and they wouldn't even help me. You can do a chargeback on your credit/debit card.

You should report seller to Adverts support@adverts.ie , Paypal (open a claim dispute unless you sent money as gift to family or friend), Ticketmaster and Garda, if they required they will contact Adverts to get all the information available for the seller.

I'm not 100% sure how it works. The difference what I see now, the tickets were sent had a date of January but there's a February on in the picture.

Process so far: he has blocked me on adverts.ie (without any reply) and deleted my angry post on his other ad (which has been withdrawn now as of today at half 4), cancelled my payment request on PayPal. One thing to note: the tickets had his relative name on it, whether his sibling or father or whoever!

@nava: I accept your moderation and private rights concerned but I should be allowed to name and shame him. Once he had the right to scam me, this must be brought to everyone attention. RANT over!

I think it can only happen once. If they are lost in the post you usually have to go collect new ones at the box office and show the credit card which was used to buy them.

Of course you can name and shame him - just not here, where somebody else could be held liable in Court. If you want to name and shame him, go set up your own website, or try Twitter or FB if you like.

hmmm, sister website and all. I think boards should take some responsibility and at the very least, they should engage with the OP and try and help him get a resolution with the scumbag who has scammed and now blocked him. obviously not on the public forum, but they should provide details such as IP address, email, phone, whatever they have on this guy, if not to the OP, but they should pass them onto the Guards.

Fair enough a name and shame could make them liable in court, but facilitating a scam merchant surely makes them equally liable

As mention above Boards and Adverts are not the same company, also they could not provide the information to the OP as would be confidential information, for that reason I suggested in my post above that OP contacts adverts Support, Paypal, Garda etc, what ever information Garda needs Adverts team will provide it to them.

We cannot allow the name and shame as we could be liable if it was reported and went to court, in boards we have no proof what exactly happened even if the details seller provide to OP are correct contact details.

Ok, thank you very much to everyone for their inputs! I understand all concerns, I'm not a lawyer so not up to date on the law.

But I'm an Average Joe with a dent in my pocket which was caused by someone else's greed.

This problem has been solved yesterday, no one officially was involved, the seller did contact me, explained the situation, apologised and after some talk the disputed amount has been transferred back to my account.

I don't know folks why someone (who at least tries to be decent) sells something if they are not sure about the thing being 100% legit.

All in all I have learnt my lessons: gig tickets must be bought at the official outlets you just wouldn't know what are you getting otherwise.

Sounds like he was scamming and now trying to spoof his way out of it like he was an innocent party.

Unless he was legitimately scammed in the first place and unknowingly sold them on as he could not go.

I don't have a clue what he was up to, Seve OB. He got them as a gift from his family, so I was told but no explanation why he was selling them. Neither had he the slightest idea why the tickets were cancelled. The whole story is a big mess!
I had no phone number off him (which is a red flag), no sender's address on envelope (2nd flag).
Then when the problem arises, doing a runner and goes hiding instead of communicate and solve the problem promptly.
(Good example: I had a lad from adverts.ie, selling me a phone, back then, it turned out, intermittently no charging, told him and got my money back without a fuss!)
I'm glad to have this over!
