did a search and Doom doesn't have it's own thread (some old thread about when it was Doom 4 tho, which is years old.)

Release: May 13th 2016 for Playstation 4, Xbox One and Pc.

Looks interesting. Taking things back to the old roots. Anyone else excited?

For those that took great offence at the Halo comparisons from earlier MP videos...:D

HALO CLONE. No joke, not sugar coating it, it's trying to be as much like halo as it can. Anybody who denies this is deluded or lying to themselves. (And its not even a clone of a GOOD halo.)

You think the armor 'kinda' looks like HALO armor? Get into the setup screen and zoom in close and take an even closer look, it's like the player model assets were lifted from the cutting room recycle bin of the last halo title. The similarities are *too close* from a modeling standpoint to be pure chance. (I'd even go so far as to call it lawsuit bait, holy jesus. o_o)

All we wanted was an arena shooter, not this Call Of Halo crap.

Honest to God one of the worst things I've ever played in my life - picture Halo being reinvisioned with a demonic theme, plays almost identically with slow as Hell, floaty movement that feels like you're running underwater and no means of gaining speed such as being able to rocket or strafe jump, so no fun and skilled maneuvering at all, you're always running at the same damn speed, the equivalent of dying old people.

Never could get into Halo games.

Imagine how disasterous it would be if DooM was done today? Well i have a bad news for you - doom 1 was done today, lost all the progress of doom 3 and Quake series, and adopted worst things from Call of Booty Modern Dumbware and Holodestiny era

I want to preface this review by saying I am a fan of halo and the franchise. But when I come to play something like doom I expect something far different...And Im not impressed. At first look the game looks like halo. Uppon closer inspection it looks like a bad clone of halo.

Slow. Slooooooow. Obvious influences from CoD and Halo, loadout (ugh), ID clearly lost the vision of what DOOM should be.

It may say Doom on the cover, but it plays and feels like a game I am very fond of hating on. The name of that game rhymes with Heylow.

I can't recommend this game, it could have been so much better, but it feels like Halo meets Call of Duty, sad to say that its not very good. Guns weren't balanced, and it is rather slow for a game that wants to be fast paced.

Most of the reviews i see on here complain about loadout systems, not playing like the old doom, or being like halo or just shallow comments about how the game just sucks without elaborating. It is not identical to cod it is abit similar just because it has loadouts, it doesn't have sprint however it does play like halo the melee system especially but just because it plays like halo its bad?

It's ♥♥♥♥ing Halo.

I've seen people refer to this game as Brutal Halo and honestly at a first glance it is but the gameplay is actually far worse than expected from that name. In Halo you spawned with a pistol and had to search for guns, in this trainwreck you can spawn with 2 weapons of your choice.

Just having watched some single-player footage from the game the other day, I have to say it looks about as boring and generic as I'd feared . Basically Doom 3 with updated graphics and not even that much updated in relative terms. Doom 3's graphics still hold up quite well, especially for a game that is over 10 years old. When you think about the quantum leap in graphics between 1994 and 2004, there was at least that to get excited about in Doom 3, even though it was just a retelling of what happened in the original game. The leap between 2004 and 2016 comes down more to refinements in 3D of ever decreasing notability. I don't think even VR would save the game from getting middling reviews.

Played 2 games and deleted it off the PS4. Don't like the pathetic double jump much. Don't like the floaty movement. Wasn't a massive fan of the weapons and reticule. All in all a disappointing MP experience

As far as I can see, it's not Doom. That said, is it even possible for Doom to be relevant these days? The genre is beyond soaked, so much so that beyond VR, what more can be done with it? Doom was a product of its time, cutting edge, dark, intense, foreboding - today it's just another meh fps to add to the Olympus Mons size pile of same. The next advance in fps will be VR, that's a place Doom can be relevant again, but until then, no, just no.

Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to like it.

But I will say this, I never really played Arena shooters. So this Multiplayer Only Beta probably wasn't going to be my bag anyway.
It's a bit like the Uncharted 4 beta, played 2 games of that, didn't like it, deleted it.
But I would still enjoy the single player of Uncharted, maybe I'll still enjoy the single player of Doom.

I just don't understand how they messed up the movement so much here.
Every platform was at a height where you needed to double jump AND then pull yourself up.
The double jump alone was never enough, so it was a 3 step process getting to another height.

I just found it extremely vanilla. Very boring.
I might suit people that are into MP experiences like this, but not me.

I really wanted to like this as I like I.D. software and really wanted a 2016 RAGE. But alas no.
Hopefully the Single Player is good and I can get a cheap 2nd hand copy fairly quick sharp

I love MP shooters and this 100%. The only way I see this kind of differentiating itself from the rest is no reload - thats very sad. Its not very quick (which isnt a necessity), the maps are not fantastic, the jumping is not intuitive and you die in too many stupid ways.

Ill hold final judgement until its out a few months but is definatly not a full price buy for me.

The beta has probably done them alot of damage at this stage. IF the single player is good then I will buy it just for that. They did an incredible job with Wolfenstein, no reason why they shouldn't be able to achieve the same with Doom.

Well, there kind of is, they're two completely different studios.

It's also worth bearing in mind that id weren't even the primary developers of the multiplayer component for this iteration of Doom, Certain Affinity were contracted to do it while id concentrated on the single player campaign and engine. Kind of surprised no one has mentioned that yet...

why in gods name would you not let the creators of quake 3 make the multiplayer of this game

I get the feeling that Single & multiplayer are being treated as two separate entities. I'm interested to know did the exact same teams worked on both or not?

Even the Steam install is segmented.

Wolfenstein restored my faith in a developer making a proper shooter with great feedback and sound. It just felt great to fire off two big bad ass assault rifles and all the weapons felt meaty.

This is what I'm hoping for in the Single player for Doom

Soo - played the BETA over the weekend for an impressions vid. Have to say that I am not overly looking forward to the release date now. Perhaps the single player will be different but there were various red flags in the multiplayer...

I thought Wolfenstein looked very vanilla and bland through it's trailers and gameplay videos but the game itself was immensely enjoyable. Different studios but I've learnt to temper my expectations.

Plus, Mick Gordon who did the soundtrack for New Order & Old Blood is doing Doom's soundtrack so well looking forward to that.

Get ya but there is just something wrong with the approach they made - don't want to enter URLs for my channel as that's reprehensible but you'll see on any playthroughs on YT the melee was too OP, assault class weapons over 15 yards are meek, shotguns are overpowered, level design not amazing, the demon looks like ET with rocket launchers and the gun design was standard / the models took up most of the screen. Extrapolate these alone out and it has me worrying. Then again - if it's cat i'll just go back and play Brutal DOOM

Should have made the point that I also get the feeling people are mixing up Quake Multiplayer with Doom Multiplayer (yes as in Doom 2)

original Doom multiplayer was good and all but Quake was what id wanted to be doing. The similarities I dont think are really there other than the timing/positioning/pickup aspect as the weapons work quite differently. Rockets were basically useless other than to pin an area and the SSG was very overpowered considering its access. Quake was a big big step up in terms of what id actually wanted to do - especially when it came to movement, which is critical as it opens up so many more options for the player. Night and day really.
Original Doom multiplayer has no bearing really on shooters from Quake onwards if Im honest. I loved it at the time and spent many an hour playing it but the technology was completely different.

When it comes to these kinda of FPS games though and their multiplayer (fast paced arena shooters....) Quake 3/Live is the absolute pinnacle and everything else is below that. Yeah that sounds definite and absolutist but its the way it is until another game comes along and says otherwise, which just wont be happening in the near future for a variety of reasons. Gimmicks, loadouts, levelling up and all that nonsense and fluff is just too popular so a specialist game like Quake has basically no future as the audience is too small and niche. So instead we get these massively gimped games designed for lowest common denominators. But hey, you get to press a button and watch your character rip an eye out of a demon because thats entertaining apparently

Again Quake seems to be the benchmark but it makes no sense to me.

I can agree that the market isn't there anymore so I can understand what you are seeing in Doom 2016, however I'm still hoping that the Single Player component is where Machine games have pumped most of the time into.

yeah im hoping the single player is good to as tbh my multiplayer days in FPS land are long over. I just hate a mechanic being rammed down your throat, especially one that you ate.
Quake is the benchmark for many reasons though. the skill curve is the highest in any fps imo (CS is pretty high too but its a different curve if you get me) and the movement and thought of it is just beautiful.

I might get it in the steam sales. I think they should have tried to do something like Serious Sam. Hoards of giant demons. So much melee in this. I just doesn't look unique at all.
