I'd definitely go for full bonus protection on a car of that year. regardless of what I have full NCB protection is a must! got mine only last week for 700e all extra's included.

Last year €375 or so, also with 25plus.ie. Most other quotes at €600 or more with a couple of 4 figure quotes in there. Increase not ideal but it'll do based on the other quotes.

AXA finally caved in today and beat my quote from the AA. It seems customer loyalty does pay. Me 3-0 AXA in each of the last 3 renewals i was telling them i was moving on. Now heading into my 9th consecutive year with them.

Have you tried its4women or boxymo? I was with its4women the last two years but my premium has gone up by 400 so I'm switching to boxymo who gave me a quote of 850. They fit a box in your car and monitor your driving, you pay for the km you're going to use for the year and are rewarded with extra km for safe driving. My friend is insured with them now and hasn't had any problems.

the age of the car is against me and the fact they seem to think a 1.4 8v push rod engine which may have possibly had a shocking 68bhp 16 years ago is any worse than a 1 litre.

other insurers won't touch the car probably, because of the age. aviva are counting a year of named driver experience as well as my one year under my own name, but on the no claims statement they just have one year down.

in terms of the cost for replacing the car, a quote on a micra or something would be at the very least a grand, so between that and replacing my car which is essentially worthless it would work out nearly the same cost, and i'd then have a car which may not be as sorted as mine (which just got a years tax and went through nct without a single advisory.)

so I'm between a rock and a hard place. I was considering just not renewing and getting a motorbike for the year but then when I go back to a car they'll want to know why there was a gap of a year. And I'd never get insurance as a named driver on either parents cars for the year because they're both large engines.

bollox to the whole situation. Last year there was a serious struggle even getting the insurance with aviva, they only went with it because as far as I was concerned I already had a policy with them from doing the 12 lessons and getting 6 months 'free' insurance. And there's a requirement for them to keep insuring as long as the car is road worthy.

I'm going to ring around and see if anyone else will consider the car.. it's all a bit of a racket

We are all feeling the renewal financial pinch,me included. Your car's age may be part of the problem. have you shopped around for quotes else where? i'm in my 30's and was getting quotes of over 3k from Aviva.
