Tyrone GAA Discussion Thread

Hi All

Just wondering what people think of the obvious changes that are taking place in the Tyrone set up and how it bodes for the future.
Taking into the account the retirement of double All-Ireland winner Kevin 'Hub' Hughes this week to add to Enda MCGinley, Brian Dooher, Philip Jordan, Ciaran Gourley & Brian McGuigan.

Take these out of the fantastic Triple All-Ireland winning squad and you would be forgiven for thinking its the end of the road. However they have still won and competed well in Minor and U-21 All Ireland in the last few years. so do people think that these youngsters coming in and with the likes of Stephen O'Neill, Owen Mulligan, Sean Kavanagh, Conor Gormley, Ricey McMenamim, McMahon brothers that Tyrone can rise once again?

Not yet. Interestingly nothing much about the Donegal ill discipline and their manager getting involved with a Tyrone player after the game. Can't imagine if it was the other way around it would be so silent.

Anyway the Belfast Telegraph is reporting that the Gaa might be investigating so I'm sure we'll soon learn how Tyrone caused it.

Maybe but it won't have been a factor. They were behind most of the second half and fought back for the draw.

Looking forward to the final. The missus is cavan so it should be fun.

Yeah, Cavan supporters are looking forward to getting back to Croker.
I have terrible memories of going to the Division 1 national football league final in 2004??? in Clones against Tyrone, getting completely soaked and Cavan getting hammered.
It can't be any worse than that this time (I hope).

2007 had to be the worst game against Tyrone for Cavan in my memory. They should have beat us in the first game and then we hammered them 3-19 to 0-07 in the replay. That wasn't nice for them at all.

I'd expect this to be a hell of a lot tighter than that and it could easily go either way. It's brilliant to see Cavan coming good again and hopefully they'll really push on in the championship this year. One of my favourite non-Tyrone counties given the amount of time I spend up there and know how passionate the Gaels are. They also look to be playing a nice brand of football from what little I've seen and what lot I've heard. The scoring is being shared out among all the forwards and Johnson is proving to be something of a serious spark for them.

Best of luck to the u21s in the Ulster final tonight. Monaghan beat them in the minor final three years ago, so I imagine they'll have the self-belief to do the same again here. Teamtalkmag.com will have radio commentary.

Done by Monaghan in the U21 final. 0-13 - 0-11. Only kicked 5 wides to Monaghans 7 too so it sounds like they had the better of it just by that alone. Hopefully the lads will carry on their progression now into the senior panel on the back of last year and getting to the final this year.

I listened to it on teamtalk. Looks like some of Tyrones tactics cost them as well as Monaghans ability.

Short kick outs killed Tyrone particularly in the second half. Also a key turning point was a double save from the Monaghan goalie in the first half

Bonner got a 24 week ban for whatever happened after the semi final. Very limited coverage of that which seems strange since we all know that any issues with u21 teams and supposed I'll disapline should be headline news and then referred to all summer.

Both teams fined two thousand too. I'd love to read a single report saying what actually is supposed to have happened but that doesn't look likely.

Heading to Croker on Sunday, haven't been in years, for one reason or the other. Looking forward to the big game ( and the Kerry Dublin one as well!!! ). Hope to see an improved performance from last two league games and some silverware never hurt anyone. Bit of a boost going into Ulster.

Not sure has Mickey settled on his team for the championship opener, maybe 2/3 places up for grabs at most i'd say.

going yes.
Have Upper Hogan ticket. But will be able to sit anywhere for first game I would assume up to the last 15 minutes as the Dubs wont be in. There will still be a few empty seats lower down for the second game as well. But I dont mind up top its not bad at all.

I'm trying to plan the journey now. Coming from Sligo and I've never driven to a game before so not sure what to do. Always been a passenger or got train/bus before. I was thinking of going as far as Maynooth and getting the Dart in from there. The train from Sligo for two of us is nearly €100 for the return. That would be the handiest but it's bonkers money.

That price sounded high so i checked the website. Its €40 each so €80 same day return from Sligo to Connolly station.

You will spend almost the same on diesel / petrol + train/dart etc.. to get to Connolly from Maynooth.

If you are not used to driving i'd be paying the small bit extra for the train straight from Sligo into Connolly and your 15 minutes from the Stadium.

The 9am would get you there for just after 12.00, and the last train back leaves at 19.05. Depending on how long it lasts, you may or may not see all the Laochra performance after the matches..

Hard to see past a Dublin Tyrone double. Kerry have more of a chance of an upset than Cavan.

Met Mickey Harte today in Mayo. He was doing a thing for the BOI so I popped int o get a few photo's with the kids. He makes a good speech.

A really nice game to watch and a decent win for the Tyrone. Never felt like they were in any trouble and the goal kinda killed the game. Was much better to watch than the d1 final but I expected that.

It was a great game, I watched it with a couple of Tyrone lads , one asked me what part of Cavan I was from !! It was a comprehensive win alright.
Tyrone look very handy and tight . They won't get to run down the middle like that in the Ulster championship though.

Overall they looked a class above cavan, and I would have liked to see Cavan win just because they don't win much. I always have to want one team to win to make a game interesting .

Yeah i enjoyed the game too. In the one on ones the Cavan defenders did really well but they allowed themselves to overrun too often. Tyrone are good at that. Never felt it was going to be a tight contest as a result.

Winning is a good habit so rightfully Tyrone are everyones team to watch. Remains to be seen if they can get over the line against a top team though.

Hartes solo runs up the pitch (jinking and soloing off either foot) were real classy.
