There seems to be a few Rossies on the forum and even though the seniors are done for this year there's still plenty going on, not least the minors great run and the county championship likely to restart very soon.

So. A thread for it all!

Just back from the U21 and if ever you want to see a team throw a game away go get the DVD. So bloody frustrating!!!

Roscommon were far and away the better team in the first half and should have been much more than 5 points up at half time. It wasn't even close.

Mayo in fairness started the second half with much more urgency, but really struggled to score, outside of frees. Even when Compton went off injured and Mullooly was stupidly black-carded, Roscommon weren't ever under any major pressure, however a succession of really poor decision-making errors, especially an unbelievalbe inability to give a short hand-pass to a Roscommon team-mate's stomach instead of over his f*ckin head or too far ahead of him on a slippy surface cost Rocommon dearly. Most of Mayo's scores came from needless turnovers.

Diarmuid, once again, was class. Got the MOM award and caused panic every time the ball was put near him, even though he was double-marked for the entire game.
Ronan Daly, despite being criminally underused while wide open in the second half, played very well and every time I see Brian Stack I'm getting more impressed.
I felt sorry for Henry Walsh. When put clean through in the first half, one-on-one, he decided to go round the goalie, to 'make sure', but having swerved beautifully to wrong-foot the goalie, he bounced the ball, but the ball never came up on the wet surface. He ended up fluffing an open goal. After that, despite getting on the ball well and linking well, he was afraid to go for his own scores and ended up passing to fellas in worse positions than him. I think the missed goal chance really rattled him, but he is a very classy player, who I hope doesn't take this too badly.

I couldnt make it to the match myself but listened on the radio, it sounded like we were the better team but **** in our pants and let them back into it, very bad week, I hope the jacks dont give us a big beating tomorrow

Ros by 3 points. Would have been more more if we were allowed keep home advantage but that embarrassment in CC had to be his usual **** self.

Methinks you may be over sating the importance of where the Dubs play their 2017 league games, just a tad.

The Dubs couldn't give two $hits as to where they play them. The '"morketing roysh" heads in the DCB, aren't going to be all that thrilled at the possibility of only having 2 home games in 2017. But the players and mgt couldn't give a damm. The fact that they have won 3 league titles in a row, bears that out.

In the Jim Gavin era, Dublin have lost a grand total of 4 league games...2 at home to Tyrone & Cork and 2 away to Kerry and Cork. That hardly suggests a team, who is quaking in their boots at having to play away league fixtures, regardless of how noisy the 'get the Dubs outa Croker' hype machine gets in the summer. :rolleyes:

Maybe they feel it's the lesser of two evils.
There would be less risk of serious injuries.

Sunday's important NFL Division One clash featuring Roscommon and Dublin has been switched from Hyde Park to Croke Park.
Roscommon county board officials and a representative from Croke Park met at Hyde Park this morning and decided that the pitch would be simply unplayable come Sunday afternoon.
(C'mon people, you know the day that's in it. One of the smart ass's here had a little too much time on his hand. Did not realise that so many would take it seriously. Look at our last couple of words, latin experts are we, even in reverse. Apologies to those who had hotel and B&B bookings made. Roscommon PRO Hugh Lynn assures us that the game will go ahead. Here's to a good match!)
Heavy overnight rain in Roscommon and with more rain forecast for the area hastened the decision. Earlier on in the week the Rossies had also conceded home advantage to Mayo for tomorrow's Connacht under 21 decider.
Spokesman for Roscommon Town Traders, Mr Jim Harney says that business' in the town are devastated by the decision. ''This was our bumper weekend. Already the town has lost big games to Kiltoom and Longford. Every bed in a ten mile radius of the town is booked by travelling Dublin supporters." added Mr Harney. He finished by slamming the Roscommon county board and stated ''that it was about time they got their act together and properly drained the Hyde."
Roscommon team management were not that disturbed by the late change and one mentor commented, "Yes it is not nice to concede home advantage but in reality we are looking forward to playing in Croke Park, it will be an experience and hopefully this will be a common occurrence in the summer ahead."
Luckily enough Croke Park was idle on Sunday afternoon and with a crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 expected neighbouring venues would not have been able to accomodate the crowd.
Disappointed Roscommon supporters who cannot travel to HQ can watch the game on TG4 later on Sunday evening, the second game of the day. Dublin county board could not be contacted on the matter but it is understood that the next time the counties are fixed for NFL duty the Dubs will travel to Roscommon town.

I think that that fact that this is a more or less meaningless game is taking some of the significance from the venue.

Am i correct that this game has no impact on who goes forward in the competition or who goes down to Div 2?

This could make a decision to move the game easier for the GAA.

TBH I didn't mind where this game was going to be played, I didn't think it was a danger to the layer until it was pointed out .
