I'd be fussy too. Hell, if you're parting with a significant chunk of change you want your preferred colour and spec. A big part of the experience of buying new is the whole spec'ing and agonising wait for it to arrive!

My salesman said the same to me a few times, that buying in a stock R / GTI was a risk and when they do, they'd tend to play very safe on spec - keep it standard-ish in a safe colour, etc.

In fairness, I can't think of a bad colour for a gti/d/R really. They're all safe enough.
Maybe limestone grey is not for everyone but I think it's a good colour to be honest and nearly went for it but the dealer advised me against it.
The spec is so complete now too you can't go wrong really.

@Ron Burgundy II - yep I have eu flag. As Joe says the plates are the same spec as his .

Just a quick question. These cars come with tinted windows back and rear. My little fella still finds the sun pretty strong on his eyes, so I was considering darkening the tints. What are your thoughts in terms of effectiveness and how it makes the car look (as in, if it makes it look worse I will buy clip on screens)?

We have a Mk5 Gti also - and the rears are tinted by the previous owner. They are darker than the Mk7 and they look fine. Similar to your son, my daughter freaks out if the sun is annoying her, but so far shes happy out in either Golf.

You could get a Peppa Pig/Dora/My Little Pony/Annoying Kids Show sun blind instead though

Problem is, the factory tint is "in" the glass... and if you go and get a 3rd party to fit extra tint, he'll likely apply a film over the glass... which will look crap IMO. Personally I would get decent sunblinds and take them down whenever you're not using them.

Too late for you now, but VW do offer a stronger factory tint (90%)... well it's on the UK options list, so I'm sure it could be spec'd here too.

Oem sun blinds gets my vote. I wouldn't even worry about pepp pig ones tbh as they'll be hard to see through the factory tint.

My god they took 2 cars? FFS! Did they confront you in the house or simply swipe the keys off the table?

Get some pics and details of the cars on the main forum. Someone may well spot them.

Well, you just put a fire under my ass to get a tracker fitted, being humming and hawing over it for the past year.

Thankfully they just took them off the table.

Definitely getting a tracker and remote "off switch" fitted to whatever car I finally own again... plus getting the house akin to Fort Knox.

Personally I think bumping up your home security is a better investment than fitting a tracker. I'm not sure if I'd want the car back if it was taken. I've also seen pics of cars with their interiors ripped to bits after the scumbags went at it with knives looking for a hidden tracking device!

Maybe even a large angry dog would do the job if that's feasible!

You're in surprising good form about it. Hopefully it's not too much of a headache. Iv been there before, and it's cliché to say but it's just a car. Thing that's most annoying is your insurance premium will go up because of it.

I thought car theft usually didn't impact your insurance premium? Or at least not to the same extent as an accident where you were culpable?

When you renew, even with ncb protected they'll ask have you made any claims in the last 5 years. You can see the impact it has using an online quote.
