People have been borrowing riffs and taking their influences a bit too far for forever in music. It's ok when it's not utterly blatant

The silent musical works at the centre of a bizarre copyright dispute have been performed in sequence in London.

Wombles creator Mike Batt has been accused of infringing the copyright of American minimalist composer John Cage, after placing a one-minute silence on his latest CD - and saying it was a Mike Batt composition.

On Wednesday morning Batt's A Minute's Silence was played alongside Cage's famous 1952 work 4'33", which consists of four minutes and 33 seconds of silence, at Baden Powell House in central London.

Cage's publisher Peters Edition and Batt hoped it would clarify the differences between the works.

Nah, don't hear that at all....I Feel Love (particularly original 12" and the Patrick Cowley extended mixes) are always played in my car and I know that track inside out. Maybe I've a blind spot for it but I don't hear it when I hear strict machine....

Trading sounds happens in dance a lot. They sample a riff or whatever and list the original authors. A famous example is Stardust Feels Like The Music Sounds Better With You and the crossover House group Modjo who sampled the riff on their famous hit 'Lady'.

). I would argue no genre has been sampled more than Disco, but again sampling is different from plagiarism. The above is off the top of my head and prob. explains why I'm banned from pub quizzes......

All of the above were accredited samples listed on the more "modern" singles. I see that as VERY different to plagiarism or copying/borrowing. As I said above though I could literally do this all day and give dozens of examples like this. It's often a case where the sampled track becomes far more recognisable than the the original track...

Some of the samples used in dance/house tracks are very clever,a few are obvious but others not so such as rui da silva touch me sampling spandau ballet chant no 1 cant hear it at all.
