Huge difference between him and Conor. You can see every muscle fiber when Conor cuts. Nate didn't look too different in the cage versus Johnson as he did on the scales.

You are way over-estimating Nate's cut. He came in at 169 against Conor, why would he cut 2 extra pounds when he could've made it 171 because it was a non title fight?

Nate was no more then 7/8 pounds heavier in the cage. People on this forum have a tendency to over-estimate weight IMO.

As you’ve said, Nate and Conor have totally different body shapes, of course they’re going to look different at weigh in time.

When you’re used to cutting to 155 then it’s easy to overshoot a smaller cut to WW.

I think Nate definitely weighed more than 7/8 pounds but even at that do you think a cut of 7/8 pounds would have no effect at all?

Yes I know, thats what I was saying that JK changed his tune after the 196 defeat and said a 145 defence was most likely

Your numbers are way off. Nate was 183 pounds the day before the fight, so not 7/8 pounds more than the 169 he weighed in at..but 14 pounds.

He just got the head slapped off him by the #5 ranked light weight and they realised that the idea of breezing into LW and taking the belt looked a bit ridiculous now.

Going back down allows him to rebuild the hype and his confidence before going up to LW. JK doesn't want Conor fighting at LW long term, he's been very open about this and the reasons why.

That's the numbers mentioned across the internet, the source is Chael Sonnen on his podcast..not that Chael isnt one for the odd bending of the truth but picking random numbers out of the air is no more accurate.

Chael was doing the fox sports coverage of the Thursday press conference along with Gil so maybe he got the inside scoop? Ive a couple pics of them as I sat just behind the camera equipment not realising what it was there for :pac:

I'm guessing that 183 number is bullsh*t just like when Chael said Conor was 173 pounds 5 days out from fighting Mendes. Considering that he was 168 against Diaz without a cut and after having packed on a few extra pounds of muscle.

Nate's coaches said he just above the WW limit a week out.

Oh the same team that also said that he was 200lbs when the UFC called? Then that he could make 155lbs… right before he then couldn’t. Then could make 160lbs… right before he then couldn’t. :rolleyes:

If he was just above WW then what was the issue with him cutting to 155lbs?

To me there’s two logical answers to that a) he was nowhere near that weight or b) he seriously struggles with anything other than a minor cut so his team thought it would help him not to (which goes directly against those who say fighting at 155lbs will have no difference)

There's no point arguing because unless we have concrete proof it's all conjecture.

End of the day, Nate is a lightweight. He's had one fight at Welterweight and he got absolutely rag dolled by Rory MacDonald.

He will most likely continue to fight at LW. He said he wanted to fight RDA at UFC 200 and I'm guessing he gets a title shot if he beats Conor again.

He may have been considering fighting at Welterweight again but in his own words that was because he felt like he wasn't going to get a shot at RDA again soon and he was having trouble finding an opponent in LW and he wanted a money fight with GSP.

But no one is arguing, its discussion. Trying to say one weight is made up though because it comes from Chael and then saying the other must be true because it came from Nate is laughable. At the end of the day no one here knows what they walked in at so its all based on hear say.

Never said it must be true if it comes from Nate. All I said is what his coaches said, never said it was gospel and was merely pointing out Chael has made up fighters weight before.

An Irish Mirror journalist said Conor was 177 a week out against Nate, what he said was most likely sh*te too. So much nonsense gets thrown around and fighters are reluctant to disclose the information so we just have to guess.

Well it’s not arguing, it’s a simple question that you don’t want to answer as both options that I can see hurt what you’ve been claiming.

If he was so close to WW then what’s your rationale for him not accepting the fight at 155lbs?

Very similar to the Aldo odds I would imagine.

Conor was a pretty big favourite over Aldo. I'd expect him to open a the favourite, then Nate to be backed into the favourite in the build up.

Because they take a pile on money on McGregor regardless of his price, it's not an evenly backed market. By having the odds close to the "true" odds, they give away a ton of liability on Conor.

What specifically should he have been doing that he wasn't?

He probably locked up 200 training hours in the two month prior to 196. Yet people making opinions of it based on a few minutes we seen on youtube and instagram.

Just seen someone else said this already but what other things could he be doing to benefit himself? The hard work should be done by the time he meets Ido.

Was he not drilling, sparring, etc in training also? How do people know this.
I've seen the pool noodle thing before, it's a warm up. Critic sizing somebody whole camp based on the warm up is bizarre. I imagine your own warm up has some moves purely there to get you moving.

If it turned out he had 8 weeks of nothing but touch-butt in the park, it'd all be valid. But I really don't think that was the case.

Ido offers nothing in the corner. agreed.
But he's the third man. John and Roddy and there for coaching. I don't think anybody from the team could bring anything to the corner. People just don't that Ido was able to wrangle his way in. If Artem was in the corner (and probably has been in the past) nobody would bat an eye. And Artem offers about as much as Ido.
