The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

I remember getting the fajitas and they were seperated with what appeared to be toilet paper :mad::mad: was impossible trying to seperate it from the wraps! Had the most amazing mexican food in Belgium. I was there at least once a week at one stage lol

Let me know what you think. As it has been a few years for me I think I deserve another shot. Even something as simple as changing the chef can dramatically change the food and whether it's good or bad.

Yeah that's what I was thinking it was well over a year and a bit when we had the wonderfull experience of going in there, so maybe tis changed..Ill update if we go in.

Ah the Cafe Mexcana debate - setting and staff are lovely. The food is grand and good value ; its not amazing by any means and will not blow your mind ( to me is fast food mexican served is nice resturant surrondings !) but any night I have been in there I have enjoyed it, cleared my plate but i think the surrondings and company add to it !
few food tweaks to the food and brought it up a standard or two they be on a winner as it really is a nice casual resturant !

Went into Sakura (Japanese Restaurant) On Mac Curtain Street Saturday night. Really, really nice food inside there. Had got take-away from there years ago and wasn't too impressed but thought the food at the weekend was outstanding. Would definitely recommend.

This operation is very bizarre. A restaurant in the upstairs of a burrito bar. I never managed to figure out when it was operating and I understand its now closed.

Pretty much agree only the value isnt great as thr portions are small.

Haven't been to cafe Mexicana for a couple of years, maybe more, but when I did go last we got served straight from the microwave to the table, one by one. We could hear it ding every time before he came out with food that was like lava on the edges and cold in the middle. Not a place I'd go again voluntarily.

Thought Siesta was alright, they had some interesting stuff on their dinner menu, shame if they're closed. Same for El Mercado, though I agree with it being weird being upstairs from the burrito bar, not very attractive.

Been eating out quite a lot over the last few weeks so I'll combine them all into one post rather than a couple of separate ones.

Firstly, son of a bun. One word: fantastic. Gorgeous setting, beautifully decorated with a lovely cool relaxed atmosphere and the staff were lovely. Absolutely tearing busy when we went on a Monday evening which we weren't expecting. I had the SOB burger with onion bites which was absolutely delicious. My companion had the chicken burger and gave it a huge thumbs up too. It was great value for money, very reasonably priced. I'm not a burger person at all, it's probably the last thing I'd order on a menu normally (I'm a pasta fiend) but I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to go back.

Second brick lane. I went here twice, once for brunch and once for drinks and nibbles. Brunch was great, I had the mini breakfast which was my no means mini! I struggled to finish it. Tasted really fresh and perfectly cooked.
Second time I had nachos with a few cocktails. Hands down, the worst nachos I've ever gotten. It was basically a bowl of nachos with loads of congealed, rock solid cheese saturated in them. The salsa, guac and sour cream came separately in little pots which looks great aesthetically, but practicality and taste wise, it was awful. Nowhere near enough toppings and difficult to cover the nachos evenly given the cheese on top was rock solid.
Both times staff were great and fair pricing though!

Thirdly, we ate in the meatball place. This time we went in a different direction and ordered a sharing platter each as a main course, which is normally served as a starter for 2 people. It was half wings, which were amazing! Gorgeous buffalo sauce, and chicken blasts, which were a spicy chicken tikka type mixture with herbs and cheese in a spring roll style wrap, and a portion of side salad. Once again, as amazing as my previous visits and very well priced. Fast becoming one of my regular spots for a casual dinner.

I went in there with a groupon a few weeks back for Churros and a hot drink for two.
The place was full and I reckon 50% of people had the vouchers, myself and my daughter waited 50 minutes in which time two other tables left and the waiter kept saying there were only two of them working, sorry but not my problem that your employer doesn't roster enough of you on a Saturday afternoon and what was presented with was an absolute disgrace.

Dont get the big love-in for Son of a Bun. Is it just me? Thoguht it was an average enough burger with a slice of gerkin. Sides are quite expensive imo for what you get too. Chips are just the shoestring/skinny ones. The fish wife does a better one for half the price...and you get to eat in the beautiful surroundings of the cork arms!!:p:p

I've heard of a new BBQ joint opening soon, called Holy Smoke. The chef behind it is John Relihan who was one of Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen". Going to open Easter Saturday on Little Hanover Street

That's a shame but I can understand why it closed, there was literally no signage outside the premises about it, you had to go in and ask "Is there a Mexican restaurant around here?"

If you're looking for a full Irish stay away from the liberty grill, I queued one Saturday morning for half an hour to be handed a menu with the likes of eggs benedict and pancakes with Canadian bacon.
I came out starving.
I find a nice breakfast in the city to be clancys bar.

Can't recommend brick lane highly enough for breakfast/brunch. I've been at least 7/8 times and it's been great each time. Check out their menu.

Alternatively Liberty grill is nice too but small portions and I've often left still hungry.

Goldbergs is good for b'fast/brunch
