Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

First day off in ages with nice weather so time to give the cars a wash.

Process was a snowfoam, rinse wheels, then Bilt hamber Auto Wheel, used with wheel wollies. Cars got a 2BM wash with grit guards.
I got a new "Professional" bucket from D&D and I must say it's the job, the depth makes a difference!
Anyway after that cars were rinsed down, dried with a Dry Me Crazy towel and got a coat of 2D Secret Sauce Quick Detailer.
Windows were done with Kleen Freaks Glass cleaner.

I did a wheel detail over the last few days. First one since I got the car so there was quite a bit of work involved.

Washed, dried, de-ironed, dried, detarred, rinsed, dried, IPA'd and left to warm up:

When they were warm, they got a coat of this which was left to cure for 15 mins:

They were then buffed and left to cure again for 30 mins after which they got a coat of Fusso.

On the car - the calipers got a clean, IPA, wheel guard and Fusso too.

The tyres got 2 coats of Meguiars Endurance tyre shine

You wouldn't think it but there's a fair amount of work in this procedure which had me tired and aching...I'm getting too old for this sh!t :pac:

When you see results like that you can well understand how much work went into it.

I would estimate 5 hours?
That seems to be the norm for me on a job like that.

First wash in proper daylight so I've now got a to do list! Main thing is a clay (gonna give the clay mitt a go) then a couple of coats of some 50Cal Pentawax. The car must've been waxed recently enough though as there's a deep enough shine as it is. Wheels could do with a clay too as there's the usual bits of tar stuck on. Same for the exhaust tips. Paint doesn't need any correction from what I can see.

The mats are in good nick but the OEM ones are €150 from BMW so to freshen it up I might get some. I might do the usual scrubbing brush with some shampoo and let them dry instead though, 150 quid is still 150 quid and last time I did it, the mats really came up like new. The leather got some Chemical Guys leather clean and restore or whatever it's called (mint green color) and that turned out well.

I'll get some pressed plates too as I'm not sure if German ones are the way to go these days, I used to think they were a nice touch but quite a few years have passed since we started seeing them in Ireland. Only other thing I'd change if I had the choice are the wheels, I don't know why it came with the pre LCI wheels but the newer 5 star ones have a lot of grey in them so I think they really work with the space grey. Genuine ones are an awful lot of money though. :eek:

About 5 hours per side. That's taking my time and the fact that there's so many surfaces and awkward angles on the wheels.

Yeah wheels take a surprisingly long time. Jacking the car and taking them off and on takes a while too. Worth it though!

Mark that car looks like it's a 161 in terms of styling and condition, fair play.

I'd keep the alloys they look perfect on it

I second that - Those wheels look perfect on that car, I think anything else would diminish the look.

Wheels Cleaned with 2D Wheel Cleaner
Wheels De-Tarred with 2D Annihilate Tar Remover
2 Bucket Wash with 2D Shampoo
De-Tarred
Clayed
Waxed with Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax
Tyres dressed with Chemical Guys Tyre and Trim Dressing

Interiors were all given a thorough Hoovering, cleaned with Kleen Freaks APC, dressed with 50.Cal Interior Dressing, all glass cleaned with Kleen Freaks Glass Cleaner and Rain Repellant and finally given a freshen with Stripper Scent

I hate that colour on the mondeo, never looks well. You did a good job on it though. They're leather seat covers?

Looks like there's no reverse on it either, with the way the light is shining on it!

I quite like the colour tbh! Yeah they're covers alright but much better quality than typical ones!

Colleage had one and it never looked clean, even though it was. No matter what polishing or washing was done, it always looked boring grey. Ya them seat covers look well, look properly fitted too.

I can see my headlights in the Kias reflection! Looked seriously glossy! Thought that Mondeo looked really well in grey too.

Just a quick one on the daily.
2BM, de-tar, Menzerna SF4000 and a coat of 845.
Not near perfect but has a nice finish.
As much as I'm willing to do on it

Friend called over in his lovely Mk5 GTI, it's in great nick so we gave it the once over with sf4000, and 845'd it. Chemical guys done the trim and wheels and Orchard Autocare Hydrophobe on the windows.

Blown away by the hydrophobe, can't wait to see how long it lasts!

I got mine off d+d detailing in cork same as YB one.

It was part of a kit think I paid 250 for it in January,where you from noccy I'm in north cork nearer to limerick though, your welcome to borrow mine if you like

It was €250 with the following on D&D detailing's website at christmas.

- 3 grades of pad.
- Menzerna fg300, fg400 and sf4000.
- 2D buffing cloth.
- The Orical Orbital DA too!

Could have been more too just can't remember!

Well the last two cars up above were my 4th and 5th cars, I went at my old astra out the back to sort out teething problems

I am in Mayo the whole time if you want mine, give it a spin and see if its for you, I can give it to you one weekend and get it back a few later if you want?

Careful though, it's dead addictive!

Cheers man, would be the summer before I'd get a proper chance to lash into it. With the results it gives I can see how it can become addictive!
