Official Conor McGregor thread (part 2). Read warning in 1st post

The last thread was nearing the 10k post limit so here's part 2.

The same rules as the last thread apply here. People seem to have strong opinions either way when it comes to McGregor and threads here tend to get a bit heated from time to time. Please keep it civil and discuss all things Conor in a mature way.
Any name-calling, trolling, baiting, or being a general ass-hat will earn you a ban from the thread and possibly the forum.
If you have an issue with a post, please use the report post function. Any off topic posts will be deleted.
Any "Do you even train Bro?" or "I'm an mma fan longer than you" type posts are not permitted either. They only make you look like a fool and as a result, everyone hates you. Yes everyone.

Of course it's not genuine. McGregor is the first to admit it's all for show to create hype. But to be fair it's a lot more real than some of the things you have suggested goes on in the UFC recently.

Like how you said the UFC 'arranges' for fighters to pull out of fights with McGregor because they were worried he would lose. Why would they make the fights in the first place??

Or the time you said Aldo was stripped of his title for not fighting. Or my personal favourite, when you said the UFC photoshopped a picture of Dos Anjos foot so they could set up the fight they really wanted to make in the first place. AFAIR you also said there was no proof it was even his foot at all!!

Your concern for what's genuine is very much misdirected!! Perhaps you WOULD be better off watching eastenders. Or better yet the x files as you seem to like conspiracy theories so much. :-)

Aldo v Edgar makes a whole lot of sense for a multitude of reasons. And yes I would also agree that the level at which he enters the LW division will be determined by how he does against Diaz if this rematch happens.

If they are talking to interested parties and you show the median PPV sales over the last 10 events, having Conor fight Nate twice is going to inflate it considerably. Especially when you consider they'd have a massive press tour this time and put much more money into promoting it.

Good points - I'm that in category - bandwagoner/mainstream and I'm really up for seeing Diaz/McGregor.

This may not appeal to the guys who always watch UFC but it's probably the chaps like myself they are trying to please - the 100% UFC fans will watch any fight but I want an interesting one so to speak - like boxing I'll watch the 'big' fights so to speak.

I've no interest in Aldo or Edgar. I believe Aldo was a champion for 10 years and a warrior - only be in keeping an eye on the guy for the last year and don't think much of him - the comments he came up with post Diaz McGrgegor were a joke.

He'll end up fighting Frankie after coming off two losses or someone like Ferguson at LW and a very likely 3rd loss.Aldo was the fight to make, he had a mental and physical advantage plus hes a purely stand up fighter. Announce a move to 155 vacating the FW belt and run from there. His earnings could drop through the floor and its unlikely he would continue fighting for 80k/80k

How many of his fights have you seen? The last year consists of a one fight, that he lost.

The Edgar fight made sense for me. Diaz came out of left field tbh. I can understand it a little. Given it as the highest selling fight, by a long way (Outside of UFC 100). But welterweight makes no sense at all. Part of me doesn't believe it yet. giving Nate extra leeway last time was foolhardy. But giving him the same weight plus 3 or 4 months is insane. Size = durability.

Some rumours that Conor's first FW defence against Frankie is being held for the first event in Madison Square Garden if all goes to plan, probably more to do with the Diaz fight being the biggest money fight they can do for 200. I'm not so sure about Conor fighting at FW again though, especially if he's going to bulk to WW properly for this fight. I wanted to see Frankie get the next shot but I'm not sure if we'll ever see it now.

The Nate rematch was always going to happen but this is far too soon. Having said that, it'll still be an amazing build up although now Nate has tons of ammunition and Conor can't say as much as he did before. But I see no merit in the fight being at 170, none. It's a tougher fight and just makes no sense. At least if it was at LW it could be sold as Conor making a run for that belt if he was to vacate FW.

If he fights Diaz at 170 it's one of 2 things.
#1 conor and his team are pure crazy

#2 conor and his team have a fantastic game plan.

I'm siding with option 2 for now

I don't get it.. ok it's going to be a huge money fight regardless of the sporting merit, but why have it at 200? That PPV is going to sell big anyway, how many extra people are going to tune in compared to if McGregor fights Diaz at 199 or 201? Maybe the UFC are afraid a McGregor ppv selling higher than 200 will look bad for them so they just want him on the card? And surely Conor won't be able to get such a big slice of the ppv money considering he is not the only attraction this time? And that's just the business side of it, fighting at WW also makes no sense

Dana said Nate made millions for the initial fight, can you imagine his bargaining power for the second fight.

It does make sense from.a marketing point of view, a proper build up will bring alot of interest/attention to Nick and build his return.

It does, but not at UFC 200 imo, all of this could be done at any normal ppv and you would make more money from it

Its the biggest event of the year. They have to have their main attraction on the card so either way Conor was always gonna be fighting at 200.

that fight cannot be a headline at ufc 200 if there are 2 title fights. doesn't make sense. if i'm JJ, DC, RDA, RL i'm not taking second or third billing to a nothing fight. Yes, people might want to see it, but it means nothing at WW, and means nothing to fight fans.

No wonder the Fertitta's are thinking of selling if it's going down the route of entertainment first, sport and competition second. Soon we'll get public votes and phone ins to pick the fighters and winners.

One of the many reasons the frankie fight is not being made,nobody cares about him he has no personality for the wider audience to tune in,a shame being humble in martial arts stops you from getting title shots but its the way it is now a days.

I don't think so. Rarely have we seen a fighter getting knocked out or beaten so comprehensively walk straight back into another title shot.

you;re right, whatever about the 1st fight, he shouldn't be holding up the division, time is ticking for these lads. either defend it or get off the pot. whomever is making this decision to fight a non title at ufc 200 has no sense of fair play but a nose for making money.

that really means they're only chasing the dollars. never been done before, the move was only for RDA and then the diaz fight was apparently to not let the fans down.
so what's it about now??? load of bollox to be honest. vacate your belt already, don't use a loss rematch as a shield to hide behind your apathy for making weight at 145.. he likes the steaks too much now.
