The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

Went for the Lunch Thaali in Tandoori nights yesterday. Decent for a fiver, the rice and naan were very good. My dining partners Lamb Balti was among one of the worst things either of us had tasted from an indian restaurant. A very strange sweet tasting sauce which looked like a balti but tasted like Chinese sweet and sour with a bit of curry sauce thrown in. Its a pity as the decor is very quirky and staff were nice but i dont think we will be rushing back, at least not for the balti.

We were in Fenns quay a few weeks back with a group of 6. My Aubergine Charlotte was middle of the road but the blade of beef and "wellie style" steak were both divine. One bugbear I had was the clichéd wording of the menu "Have a lash of the starters" and "The mains are savage cabbage". The dining area could also do with a bit of a spruce up, a lick of paint and re-upholstering the chairs wouldnt go amiss.

yep still there and I saw on facebook during the week that they are setting up shop in the Sextant in town as well !

I've been there for Lucy llunch a few Fridays this year and I found the food really good, a definite improvement over what it was.

I've had the steak sandwich, pork burger , Philly steak all very tasty.

Nope, just surprised that people think it's "really bad" and "atrocious". I haven't had everything on the menu so was just interested to know what the other poster had when they were there.

Good to hear, yeah it was about a year ago we left after the experience and never went back as it was bad

I agree. Went once and would be slow to go again. Compared to Gallo and Galetti it was like average home cooking.

Food is excellent in the Silver Key alright, they are doing really well and recently did up the restaurant upstairs and are in the process of doing the same to the bar. Myself and my family go there regularly.

Had some grub in The Silver Key yesterday evening before the match in Pairc Ui Rinn. I have to say the food was very good and the service was excellent given the fact that the place was very busy due to the match, can't fault it at all, top notch experience.

Finally tried the meatball place. Was very pleasantly surprised. Food was simple but good. Quality was high. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Didn't think I'd like it much but I'd definitely be back. €17 for meatballs with sauce spaghetti, garlic bread and a pint.

That's a shame. My dining partner had the lamb special with risotto and it was really tasty and cooked perfectly.

Going to Elbow Lane is like deciding to go on the pull Saturday night.

You look forward to it all week, dress up nice when the big day comes, maybe put a bit of gel in the hair and break out the nice aftershave, just a dollop though, not too much.

You have a drink at home as the excitement builds and finally head into the city full of confidence. But you somehow end up in Burger King at the end of the night wiping whopper sauce form your chin and wondering where it all went wrong

Walked in on 7.20pm on a Friday night last year, left my number on their list, got called at 10.15pm to say my table was ready. A group of us had gone for drinks to wait and were half cut and starved to death at this point so didn't really enjoy the food as we ate so fast!

Walked in at 5.45pm on a Saturday last month, left my number on their list got called at 7.50pm for a table, we went back and the food was great, though being on the verge of starvation probably helps.

Walked in last night at 7.40pm, left my number again and got called at 10.05pm saying my table was ready, we had eaten and gone home at this stage!

It kind of puts me off planning to go there as I know I'll be asked to wait and end up somewhere else so it's a disappointment in the end.

I'm glad Napoli is still going. I haven't been in a while but it's a great treat!

La Dolce Vite is another Italian that has amazing food, very authentic. The mixed grilled fish is so delicious! Costs more than a 3 course meal in Napoli but totally worth it :-D
