My buddies parents have a 200 quid voucher, that's up in a heap now too.

Really bad news, especially for anyone with a large deposit.

anyone know of were one should look for an alternate venue
if anyone is reading this they can reclaim a credit (not debit) card deposit
other deposits are gone afaik

O my gosh! People have lost deposits? Those poor couples! There is another hotel nearby cromlech called lough rynn castle which I've heard is very nice. I had my wedding in Kilronan Castle (pretty near aswell) which was fab! Couldn't fault the service and the food was great. I hope these couples get sorted. What an awful time. Best of luck to them all.

It has been a couple of years since I have been there but Castle Dargan is lovely for a wedding.

Aw thats a shame, I've been there before and its a nice place (spa on the extremly small side however).

Pitty it couldnt have been taken over as a going concern.

Hey, we are on Wednesday. It's still on. By some kind of magic created by amazing family and friends, the credit union and a can do attitude.

Horrible about the money, that does sting. But no one died and we are still getting married. I can't wait.

We were to be there in 3 weeks but thankfully we have 2 other options. If there was a demand for assets, which there most likely was, which led to closure, then the directors would have known about it for some weeks. Bad form but am sure they tried their best. If anyone is affected by this, as previously mentioned Castle Dargan, but also The Landmark in Carrick get good reviews.

Once revenue get involved they can be absolutely savage, taking money out of bank accounts etc without warning and they dont care who it affects. It can be very difficult to get back on your feet with a business if you fall behind at all.

we got stung, this whole deposit thing shows what sham deposits really are unless a 3rd party holds them.

We are not going to organise as much of an alternative and have a smaller more local wedding. We where over a year away sorry to all others effectived another case of directors taking eye off looking after customer first.

As mentioned once you mess with revenue its a downward spiral

Is this something that could be covered by wedding insurance? Or is it like when a hotel goes bust and if you've paid by credit card and can do a chargeback?

Wedding insurance is really hit and miss. I know a friend of a friend who was in a similar situation to this where the venue closed shortly after they paid the deposit. They had insurance but it didn't pay out. The same couple were really unlucky with the photographer and again the insurance was useless. They ended up in the small claims court instead.

That's what I'd be afraid of, or else that it would pay out, but would take months to process the claim.

Amazing family and friends and a sister in law who works in events management. We rang the cu to borrow the difference. Thankfully we had saved it all to date so it's a small loan.

No Wedding insurance. We paid in cash instead of credit card. Live and learn.

Just been to our new venue and its gorgeous. There's always positives in life

I'd say to be honest very few would pay their deposit with credit cards anyway, most people would use a visa debit card or else a bank transfer (probably the most common I'd say) which probably wouldn't have any insurance either. Delighted your wedding is going ahead and enjoy!

Depends on the ts&cs. Credit cards would be advisable for any large purchases. We keep a credit card just for coverage for large things. Pay it off in full every month. There's usually too small a limit on debit cards for major purchases eg over €1500.
