Now that's not a good development. Will just give EI another piece of ammunition in their ongoing attempts to close up shop in Shannon?
And I sincerely doubt Norwegian are a good long term bet for Shannon.

Ah well now in fairness the EI attitude towards SNN isn't as hostile anymore, then addition of FAO and AGP and the increases of the BOS and JFK routes (they could have just put 1 757 and left them at previous frequency).

I do agree though, we do not want Norwegian here on SNN-BOS, don't mind them on SNN- Some unserved destination.

Similar to Cork I think this may be something of a ruse to try to entice politicians and other lobbyists here to put more pressure on the US authorities to allow the routes to operate. It's not that they wouldn't operate the route, at least for a while, if it got the go-ahead, but I would query whether operating TA routes from regional Irish airports is Norwegian's real aim here.

No one from Shannon would be lobbying for SNN-BOS with Norwegian though.

I also think its a bid to try get their license, definitely. Also think there would be room for them on the route, but only in Summer....

Yes, I'm surprised they haven't tried it already given how keen Knock are to get TA flights back. But again, it wouldn't be because they're genuinely keen to start TA ops from Knock, it would just be another ploy to get the licence.

Yeah it wouldn't surprise me at all. Though a JFK & Boston route from either Belfast City or Aldergrove might prove to be a good move? Though I'm not sure can the City airport runway handle a fully fueled 737 for that distance (wasn't that one of the reasons FR pulled out?)

In this case, it might be wise for SNN mgt to put their foot down and refuse a Boston route...

NI is the wrong country for the flag of convince though! Also you can't get an aircraft to go from BHD-ACE/TFS/LPA so its not going to BOS/JFK!

Hopefully not SNN-BOS, Shannon would be very foolish to give any sort of deal on that route. If EI say bye to BOS then JFK will probably go too, possibly with the rest of the EI routes.

While yes Shannon would be more suitable from some perspectives for 5th freedom type stopovers, I don't think there should be any ring-fencing or special provisions

If that’s true then a clean break now would be in the best interest of everybody.

Neil Pakey certainly recharged the airport with a lot of positive energy and marketing ideas.

His surprise departure raised eyebrows in the business community as he was seen by them to be doing a good job.

I wonder who in Ireland would make a good CEO for Shannon?

Jet diverts to Shannon with sick passenger (Clare Herald)

Interesting enough the same Boeing 767-400 jet (N831MH) diverted to Shannon with an ill passenger in 2010 too.

I saw it take off around mid day for London ...... wondered why it was in Shannon
